When they first started using this set a few months earlier in 1994 they did a thing where each member of the panel had to walk into the studio to applause. It was dropped very quickly because it was so ridiculous!

I loved Sir Clive - always honest, considered answers, nothing glib. He always said what he meant, and, of course, a man well ahead of his times.

In those days the sets on variety shows always had to have steps, tiers, pillars and blocks. Quite often the steps just don’t go anywhere.

I was alive back then. We cherry pick the best of the 70s and 80s and think it's representative of the era, forgetting that 99% of time it was either rubbish even then or looks woeful now. I'm not saying today is better - just that 40-50 years ago is certainly no golden era to benchmark against. Good to see, though.

I had two of those. The first was a Blue 2.0 GL and the second (in 1982) was a Gold 2.0 Ghia. Then, everything changed with the arrival of the Sierra which was called a jelly-mould by die-hard Cortina owners. However, by then I'd reached the dizzy heights of a company Granada.
