Would black tight shorts be a decent alternative to long black tights? Like for easier correction but at the same time feel less revealing?

I love what you said about pointe shoes not being so important. For recreational adult ballet students, I think it's vital to emphasize having good strong feet, and developing a sense of grounding and awareness of how your feet work to support and move your body in space. I love seeing my dancers develop supple, dexterous feet; and I think jumping into pointe shoes too soon hampers that. I believe that the strength and flexibility we develop working in ballet slippers does a lot for our overall physical well-being as we age. Having healthy, strong, flexible, arthritis-free feet, past our 60s, makes such a huge difference in our ability to stay active and vital into elder years.

I would like to humbly submit something to the question of why humans crave music. Humans are made in three parts. We are a spirit, we have a soul and we live in a physical body. The body has demands and requirements. Also, five physical senses. Additionally, we live in a physical world. Our soul is desperattly deprived of nourishment making it small and weak. Music is at the intersection of our spirit, soul and body. When music is present, our soul quickens to absorb the attention and nourishment. Slowly, over much time the impoverished soul strenghtens and contributes to the performance of the art.

Hi Julie, thanks for your video. It is great to see more and more support for us - few - male ballet dancers. I started a year ago at the age of 59 and love it. Meanwhile I have three times a week classes in presence and everybody is so lovely and supportive. I use classic pink convertibles with short black shorts and a loose fit shirt. Just a few weeks back I ran into imperfect pointes and found very nice dancewear for men. Love, Horst

I just discovered your podcast and am totally jazzed! I began ballet as an adult and am now planning to re-enlist at 70. I had good training and am looking forward to developing a greater understanding and improved application of technique through your website. Thanks for offering this information online - it's really invaluable!

Sometimes it feels like barre fitness has taken the most special parts of ballet away and made it boring! so glad it opened the door for Anke, so she could find her way to rewards and enjoyment of ballet ❤

Really interesting! I currently have the question myself of how I can work on my inner challenges through dance and especially within a very perfectionistic realm of ballett. In reagrd to West Coast Swing I really liked the take on being connected with yourself AND also to a partner at the same time. I think that might be a good exercise for relationships :D

I met (virtually) Anke back in 2020-2021 when we were in that same online beginner ballet class on Sunday afternoons! I remember seeing her husband in the back of her video feed a few times finishing his piano and seeing her dancing in that tiny space in her bedroom. We follow each other on Instagram still and it’s so lovely and inspiring seeing her progress and watching her go to the US for IABF. I actually feel really emotional listening to this episode thinking of how far hard work and passion has taken her. I’m also still dancing, but I do it now in person in the studio I go to. I hope to run into her again soon, maybe we’ll meet at an intensive someday.
