Buy a starter set either the getting started, intro, or basic starter (i suggest the intro set), find what you want, then look at the second hand market or check your local hobby shop. Dont get pressured to meta game with the collecting&painting and the boardgame.

Dont forget guys, you can also buy in order to sell at a later date when prices go up. some issues are going for 25 pounds already

Don't be intimidated of the building & painting of models. Building is easy & there is no minimum level of artistic quality that you need to meet outside of your own.

One big recommendation if you want to play the game: choose the faction that you like, find interesting, and have a playstyle you like, DO NOT pick a faction based on their current power level, because they're winning a lot of tournaments, etc. The game gets rebalanced constantly, so a faction that is considered weak could be considered the strongest in the game with one data-slate change. Likewise, if you just plan on playing the game casually, the meta really won't matter.

I started with the new Starter set kill team a month ago. Its been a awesome experience. The only thing stopping me from building armies for the 40k game are the prices. I feel like those r very over blown. You don't need to buy paints from citadel!!! Regular stuff that are 5bucks works well enough! Something ive learnt being in a few discord communities. They help out a ton. Its a slow hobby may take a good year to get use to things.

For me I'll be doing the premium subscription. I'm lucky enough to be stable enough in life to not worry over the cost but I have a good number of friends that seem a little interested in the hobby but can't afford it. Once I get the stuff I'm most interested in they can get what's left and we can all play.

Also - paints, tools, extra models and gifts… plus the magazine. I’ve decided to go premium and eBay the stuff I don’t want. I make it £1065 for premium (1 mag free & 1 @ £4.99)

Iv got all the armies that are being done as combat patrol so all the parts can expand what iv got and it's great getting new placky bits most weeks at a discount so I'm in think it's great.

I subscribed as I am just getting back into the hobby I used to collect 20 years ago stopped when I was 14. I'm going to probably sell the Elder and share the Xenos with my Mrs who will enjoy painting them with me.

My son is 9 and wants to get into the hobby, I've not played since 3rd, I used to work for gw, so gone premium, he loves reading mags.

massively worth it As 40k is to much money right now and this is like the old days form 2006 were things were buyable and not insane lvls of money + stuff thats Worth geting + lots of free stuff and stuff to help new players out its just all in all a win win.

I have subscribed to the magazine.I love the modelling side, my son plays so its all for him. I'm disapointed there is no Tau included so will probably sell the chaos marines and death eaters and re invest in Tau. The Spacemnarines will be added to the currnt DA army ranks and Im most looking forward to the Cadians, ive a plan for the camo i want to try.

The prices are offputting. GW clearly noticed the popularity of Kill Team and decided to maximize the monetization of that popularity at the expense of its original purpose as a gateway game.

Completely agree with you on the wild price spikes. GW really needs to be called out for it. With that said, I'm really looking forward to the new edition and hope we get a tyranid kill team soon

i did the math for EURO€ for those interested. these calculations are only about the models vs subscriptions, other things like paints or shipping were not included in these calculations. if you bought every unit in the standard subscription from gw it would cost 1609€. 20% cheaper from retailers would be 321,80€ off for a final of 1287,20€. the magazine at 15€ each and 90 issues costs 1350€. with premium you get models in worth of 471,25€ which at 20% is 94,25€ off for a total of 377€. the whole standard+premium models would cost 2080,25€ where 20% is 416,05€ off for a total of 1664,20€. the premium subscription costs 17,50€ each for 1575€. my conclusion if 20% cheaper is available, then only buy this if you want to 'collect' the combat patrol magazine as a whole. if any part of the whole is not appealing to you, it would be better to buy the things discounted elsewhere. if you can only get 10% or less, it might be worth it if you can split the costs with someone else. PS also be aware that in the subscription fine print are extra binders that come at an additional cost. you have to manually opt out after making your subscription if you dont want those, as you automatically opt in on registration of your subscription. also be aware that the last 40k magazine had raised its price by 1€ for each of the last 30 or so issues. meaning the cost of 1575€ might go up depending on binders, price hikes, shipping costs, etc.. . . . additional math/stats for those interested: standard 1350€ divided by 9 factions means 150€ per faction. the standard factions gw cost is 181,25€ - aeldari 181,25€ - chaos space marines 171,00€ - astra militarum (imperial guard) 181,25€ - genestealer cults 174,00€ - space marines 164,00€ - tyranids 197,50€ - world eaters 181,25€ - leagues of votan 177,50€ - orks premium 1575€ divided by 9 factions means 175€ per faction. the premium factions gw cost is 232,50€ - aeldari 248,75€ - chaos space marines * 253,50€ - astra militarum (imperial guard) 236,25€ - genestealer cults 239,00€ - space marines 215,25€ - tyranids 265,00€ - world eaters * 228,75€ - leagues of votan 228,75€ - orks * you need to subtract one 67,50€ daemon prince as you only get one for csm and eaters to share.

Probably needs an update…. I wouldn’t class Killteam as a viable option given the recent prices…. Also Warcrow does look like a good option for fantasy

I'm not subscribing this time, pretty fed up with so many copies of the same free gifts each partwork subscription, and the premium issues in Stormbringer were a tad meeh in their model choices. I will however be getting the partwork from my local newsagents instead, and just reuse older Conquest or Imperium Binders with a bit of home improvised artwork ontop of the covers and spine.

I've literally just started as a beginner after having the elite edition starter set sitting in a cupboard for nearly two years, and sub'd to the premium just to dive in and get started, learn and gain experience painting and also keep me interested every 4 weeks....watched alot of Warhammer videos, and still clueless to what you guys are talking about 😂 good video by the way.....subbed 👍🏼

I can't help but find it hilarious that the "learn to play" part of this has just replaced the Psychophage from the middle-priced Starter Set with the Tyranid Prime and therefore made that learner battle mission far more balanced!

super excited for the subscription purely because most of the models are cool for building and painting for me, not fussed at all about it not having useable armies because i really don't intend to play - can see why people wouldn't be happy though that's fair. plus if i change my mind, i can just grab the nice value dread/tyrant and cancel :)

I'm ok with losing the wings (not a big fan) but for something else not for nothing. They need a special thing who tells you "this is a elite unit". I was hopping for a primarch like model for the sanguinor and it's just a "hd" version 😢

I actually dislike the Sanguinor the most as it feels like a wasted opportunity to make a huge centrepiece model. The sanguinary guard suck but at least I have enough stuff in my bits box to fix that quite easily

The new Sanguinary Guard aren't more detailed though. They have realistic "tru scale" proportions and that's literally it. Everything else is a step down. Each torso and leg pair is bespoke and unique in the original kit - the Primaris Sanguinary Guard are literally copy and pasted CAD-by-intern jobs. There is no detailing or character to them. The original Sanguinary Guard were individual characters in their own right. The helmets which PREDATE the Stormcast are references to Mordred in the movie "Excalibur". What's crazy with the Sanguinor model is that the new plastic version has far LESS unique details due to laziness.

All of the new models, which are awfull and generic, look worse than the ones they will send out of production. There is now NO reason to start a blood Angels army. It has absolutely no bite and no spark

I have had little complaints about all of the other stuff revealed, but by far the guard are the worst. I get recasts are frowned upon for being illegally made and all that, but its a good way to cheaply access the cool bits from the old sanguinary guard that could be used to make these ones a lot better. Im also planning on doing some green stuff sculpting. I also just find it odd how inconsistent the sanguinius death masks are between these guys and dante and the old ones. These are also the first time i have actually seen the tactical rocks like they are tripping the guys

I like the HQs, but I can't defend the new Sanguinary Guard or Death Company. They're painfully bland, generic, and nurffed. They turned the Blood Angels into the Genesis Chapter (Ultramarines in red). Black Templars and Dark Angels got better treatment. WTF GW?

Models are extremely disappointing. Everything far too generic. Sanguinor looks like a statue. All the iconography and heraldry has gone, the wings have been clipped....a sad sad reveal. Dante , Astorath and lemartes cool, but the rest can stay on the shelves for me. Think I can feel the red thirst and black rage coming on.....👊
