I have a great collection of Ludwig, Gretsch and DW snares. I’ve not added any boutique snares. Thinking adding some. I’ve looked at many Dunnett snares on reverb but never pulled the trigger.

My first choice would be the ribbon....with a bit of eq and compression it sounds like it would work extremely well.

This snare is spectacular, it's a shame it's not available here in Brazil. Taking the opportunity to ask a technical question, of course if you can answer, what are the sound differences between a 14 x 6.5 snare and a 14 x 7 snare? Is there much difference in your opinion? Let's assume that both are made of the same material.
@MikeDawsonDrumsАй бұрын
Not a huge difference. The 7x14 will have a slightly bigger sound and a little more volume headroom.

I’ve been lucky enough to own one of these snares since ‘08. I’ve never used the FibreSkyn diplo on it, but have used an Aquarian Modern Vintage, and all manner of Remo and Evans on this drum. If you want fat, full and low it can do it. If you want beautiful popping rimshots with really pleasant harmonics after the backbeat, it’s got you covered. It’s LOUD though! If you want the drum to speak it is super responsive and if you’re a heavy player and you want that snare to stick out in your acoustic balance this drum has that in spades. Conversely, at low volume levels or with brushes the high sensitivity translates to fantastic clarity. It’s really an awesome instrument. Sadly the namesake of the company Mr. Fidock passed away and the company is no more today. RIP Stephan Fidock

Crazy bleed but the kit sounds great. Snare could use one piece of tape right near the rim. Is that you counting or is that a metronome sound?
@MikeDawsonDrumsАй бұрын
Thanks! Bleed from what though? The metronome count is part of the mix.
@tmappeАй бұрын
@@MikeDawsonDrumsyeah sorry maybe it’s the way your OHs are compressed? Cymbal wash just takes over the whole sound when you play it.

Learning this at the moment for gigging with my band, and had most of it down but came here to check out the nuances of fills and some of the details that Vannucci does. I've managed to pick up quite a few which has been great. I think your drumming is very professionally executed by the way. Simply brilliant. Thank you Mike for taking the time to make this video, and even though it's 9 years old I'm sure there's still many people like myself from across the world, that will never meet you, you'll never know, but you've helped them and I just wanted to call it out. All the best sir. Love and appreciation from Central Scotland.

Using buzz kills on the batter head for a drum tuning video? Come on, that's crap and does not provide an accurate representation of the drum sound. It's not that difficult to tune a snare drum properly without buzz kills.
@MikeDawsonDrums2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! I was going for a specific sound and used the “buzz kills” to achieve that.

No, I don’t. I strongly believe it’s just as important to practice exercises without dictating the pulse as it is to explicitly state it. The pulse needs to be internalized first, in my opinion.
