ahh ok. So the Beatstep has 3 outs per channel - pitch, velocity and gate. You don't need velocity. Plug the gate out (beatstep) to the Gate jack on 2600 in KEYBOARD GATE/TRIG area. Then the pitch out (on beatstep) goes to KBD CV input on any oscillator, or into the top jack of the MULTIPLE input (2600 far left bottom) The top MULTIPLE jack sends out the 3 jacks below it, which you can send pitch the the oscillators with. Make sense?

I have to add here that the argument that 'AI learns like People learn' is not really true- and even if it was we can surely discrimiante between machines and men when it comes to making judgements as to what is fair and what is not. It's probably possible now to create a pair of mechanical legs that could propel me down a sprint track faster than any human on earth- but the fact that my robot legs mimic the function of human limbs does not really constitute an arguement that me and my robot legs should be allowed to compete in the next Olympic games- on the basis that my mechanical legs run just like human legs run- who would really find this a compelling case?
@paulhiggins516510 күн бұрын
One problem with using AI Art is that people may assume that the music is also made with AI- which may not be what you want. Also the particular AI image you have used positively screams 'AI', which again implies that originality is not really something you care about. As an artist I can see both the temptaion to use AI but also the dangers in doing so. The as yet unanswered question is how AI comes to be seen as it's use grows- will it be simply accepted as a normal feature of our world- or will there be hostility toward AI as more and more domains of our lives become filled with fake content? The term 'AI Slop' is recent meme that I think is worth paying attention to because it perhaps reflects a growing sense that AI generated content is seen as low value and already too pervasive- which bodes ill for those whose work becomes indentified with the use of AI.
@alwaysandy_9 күн бұрын
Great points you make. I’m curious what’s in between the slop and art. Hmmm.
@paulhiggins51659 күн бұрын
@@alwaysandy_ The 'Slop' meme is interesting because it neatly captures in a single word the two real problems with AI generated content- it's low value and high quantity. AI can't create art because art is a twin pole phenomena- for art to exist there must be both a creator with something to express and a receiver who will experience that expression and interpret it. Like electricity both poles must be connected for the creative current to flow. Generative AI has neither the ability or desire to express anything thus no creative act has taken place when it's algorithms solve a prompt input by generating a responding pattern of pixels or sound.
@alwaysandy_9 күн бұрын
@@paulhiggins5165 agreed! where i'm curious though, is this use case. If I'm generating a lot of iterations of a thing to assemble new thing, and then take it even further with animating etc...is that art?
@paulhiggins51658 күн бұрын
@@alwaysandy_ I guess it all comes down to how much control you actually exercise over the outputs of the AI- and how much influence those outputs then feed back into the final work. The guy who just types in a few words and is rewarded with a rich and complex image as a result can legitimately argue that his choice of words did have a material impact on the final result- had he chosen different words the final image would have been different- so does typing those words make him an artist? The problem seems to be one of intent- sure I can throw a brick into a fast running stream and this will alter the flow of the water as it passes around the brick- but can I claim that this new pattern of water is a work of art- or am I just interacting with a complex system and producing random results? Ask youself the question- could any amount of text really describe the music you create? Or could you send an Artist a text description of your face and have them paint your likeness based on those words alone? In both cases the answer is no- words are not capable of expressing music, or painting because if they were we would not need music or painting- the words alone would be enough. So the idea that we as Artists can somehow encode our intent into words, then have this limited expression of that intent further interpreted by a machine which adds it's own layer of ambiguity and confusion and yet then claim that the final result of this distortion and dillution of our original intent is somehow an expression of our artistic vision is-to say the least- a little weak. Creating Art is about control, about finding the purest way to express the thing we want to say- AI is the antithesis of control, it's about giving up control and allowing the opaque algorithic workings of machines to imprint their own limitations and biases on the things we make. Perhaps the real question is why any artist would wish to compromise their vision by passing it through the digestive tract of a machine that will then excrete that vision as slop?
@alwaysandy_8 күн бұрын
@@paulhiggins5165 you're saying a lot but I'm not hearing much substance. This bit seems all about control, if I want to give over control of my art. Again - this is a very specific use case that I've filmed for you/us to discuss. That's the conversation. Did I relinquish artistic control by using AI tools to make cover art and a promo? No. I had full control, and I got it to make exactly what I had in mind. Then I used more AI tools to bring it to life. If I'm going on only this 'control' argument, there is no argument. At no point did I lose any control, in totality I created just what I had in mind.

I am glad your amp came back to life. I don't know if you remember; I got my DSL40 back in May after trading a bunch of junk gear to GC that no one else wanted. I thought about your video with the negative issues as I played it. I liked it in the store and decided to give it a go. In October, I traded the rest of my old crap gear that I wasn't using to another GC in the area as they had a used DSL40 (that looked brand new) at a decent in-store discount. I now have 2 running together with an ABY pedal. That amp might just not be for you, or you're simply used to better gear. I get it. I still appreciate honest opinions. All in all, I paid $1100 for both, maybe $150 total out of pocket after trades. Considering MESA combos practically start at $2200, the lowest price decent tube amp isn't expected to be best amp in the store. It should still work though. No excuses for bad QC.
