You can understand why we get fatbergs, the amount of grease there is pretty bad. Cant understand why they allow it to build up so badly. Great job Sir :)

Are they only flushing number twos? Not the pee and paper. That might explain the sludge block.

It's not toilet paper, it's fat. Do you really think that a twelve foot drain line would have that much tp in it. Does that line really go to the bathroom?

They are either using way too much toilet tissue or they are using that thick charmin stuff, wow . A lot of displacement in the pipes too. That first joint will be catching all the paper causing the blockage.

Someone cheap-skated out on that manhole, the holes in the bricks are supposed to be vertical, not horizontal and they fill with mortar when built. I bet those go through to the soil and that's how the roots get in.
@BEV03232 ай бұрын
@brucetheloon What's the difference...vertical, horizontal, sideways, upside down...I don't think it makes any difference so long as they're placed and sealed with the cement.
@brucetheloon2 ай бұрын
@@BEV0323 A few of the holes in the bricks in this manhole don't appear to have been filled in properly, or the roots broke the cement out. It can be difficult to fill the holes all the way through the brick with cement as you'd need to poke it in with a stick. The other issue is that using these bricks on edge like this is reduction of load strength vertically. The vertical brick has less surface area to disperse the load into the foundation and subsoil, so the pressure of the load is higher (e.g 50kg spread over 165cm² instead of over 230cm² raises the pressure on the brick from 21.3kPA to 29.7kPA, almost 50% higher) and if heavy vehicles go over the edge of the manhole as it is in the driveway, you could now crack the structure. Additionally, with the holes horizontal, the vertical load could crush the brick itself with the thinner walls like you can more easily crush a toilet roll tube squeezing the sides of the tube versus squeezing from the ends. It may be fine when the bricks and cement are fresh, but the hostile environment in a sewer can slowly weaken the bricks and material and you have reduced the lifespan by increasing the pressure of the vertical load by 50%.
