Thank you! I filmed in January 2024 which was a perfect time to see snow and enjoy onsen at the same time. Winter 2024 saw record low snowfall in parts of Japan because it was so warm, so I was lucky to see that much snow. February should be a good time to see snow given it is middle of winter.

I'll be in Tokyo in late November 2024. 6 nights in total including a day trip to Hakone. I feel it is very short trip but as a first timer to Tokyo I feel just nice. What do you think?
@village_mayor6 ай бұрын
Hello! I think it is more than enough time. Tbh you will never finish seeing everything in Tokyo since there's so much to explore. Hakone is also a good day trip, as you can do the loop back to Tokyo within one day. As noted in the video, taking the Yamanote Line gets you to most landmarks, or at least a quick transfer to other train or subway lines. Late November can't come quickly enough!

Great video! I was in Tokyo in 2017 and aside from the brutal heat wave, I really liked it there. Quick question for you, my passport is good for 10 years from the date It was issued (2017). Have they changed requirements on passports since covid? What did you find is different in airport experience between pre covid and now? Thanks.
@village_mayor8 ай бұрын
Thanks! You should go back to Japan. All covid requirements were removed May 2023, but because of the surge in tourism, the wait times at the airport is still around 30 mins but not the 3-4 hours like it was a year ago. You do have to register with the Visit Japan Web which makes the process easier before travelling. I saw people scrambling to register at customs. You can still submit the disembarkation form like you did back in 2017 however.

They also have room service (order food and they bring that to your room). Hope that when I come back to this hotel they revived the restaurant.

How was the buffet breakfast at the time? I heard reviews that it was really good. I bet it was even better with the interior design. Same, I hope they revive the restaurant. I just came back from Japan a few weeks ago, and pretty much all hotels have revived their breakfasts.

Thanks for your feedback. Not all of the rooms have "landmark" views, and it is hard to figure out which rooms give you views unless you read each room's description in the website. Generally, the smaller rooms faces a courtyard and not have views. Prices reflect the views and it is worth it if you have two or more people. But hope you get to stay in this hotel.

@vita_travel888 Жыл бұрын
The very last comment regarding the distance to the airport as justification of not building a railway link makes no sense. For example, the city of Strasbourg in France has comparable to Halifax population, its airport is 17 km away from the city and yet it has a train link to the airport that run 5 times per hour. It’s what you build.

@@village_mayor Thanks so much. Really looking forward to it. Yes that was our biggest reason for making the change ... The smaller number of seats in that class. I can't afford business class, can't even afford to bid since their lowest bid is now $650 per passenger.
@village_mayor Жыл бұрын
@@pegasusnites Premium economy is the best value. I've done the bidding before and won, I had to pay a lot and always regret lol. You get lounge access which is useful for Pearson given how it sucks. But Haneda there are so many restaurants you don't want to be cooped up in a lounge. The flatbed and meals are nice but unless you can win with the lowest bid, I would use that money for shopping or eating. Seats in PE is comfy enough anyway, and yes, fewer seats within that segment or class is very useful.

Having watched videos of long haul Premium Economy flights on other airlines, (EVA, Korean, Singapore, British Airways) I must say AC seems to be a level below these others. In Amenities, Comfort, Storage, and particularly Food service/Quality. I am travelling YYC/LHR in PE in about a month, and can only hope the extra cost turns out to be worth it. I have my doubts, having watched this today.
@village_mayor Жыл бұрын
I agree with you, there is a reason why JAL and Singapore airlines are consistently the top airlines in the world, and AC is... not. I guess none of the trip reports you see re: AC would give a good rating if we always compare with JAL or ANA all the time lol.

You do get a priority security area with Premium Economy if you go to Aisle 1 in Pearson. That aisle is not just for business class or Star Alliance Gold. Aisle 3 can be used for check-in but Aisle 1 is the way to go. It keeps you away from the riff-raff. hehehe
@village_mayor Жыл бұрын
I actually did go through Aisle 1 because the sign says Premium Economy. However, they turned down a PE passenger from checking in (the guy sat in front of me on the plane), and had to go to Aisle 3. I played dumb but luckily she allowed me to check in and drop off my luggage. So I'm confused whether PE is still allowed to go through Aisle 1 or not.
@marshallrichmond4909 Жыл бұрын
@@village_mayor You did not have to play dumb. As you mention the sign does say PE. Some Air Canada staff can be snotty. I agree about the food. I flew YYZ to ICN in January. Same food stuff. I also remember not seeing a flight attendant coming thru the cabin to offer water during the flight. Even ANA or Asiana comes thru the economy cabins to offer water.
@village_mayor Жыл бұрын
@@marshallrichmond4909 I know right! If they said to go to Aisle 3 I would then say to remove the sign in the front, because it is misleading. If the rules change, then change the sign. After making the video however, I noticed a lot of other airlines offer ice cream. Not like AC offering brownies every single time.

Nice video, I love it! Is there a reason why some economy class passengers are seated in BUDD at the beginning of the train and some are seated in the Renaissance cars? I’m wondering if it has to do with the passengers destination or if you are a solo traveller or travelling with a plus one as the configuration is 2 seats together throughout the whole car.
@village_mayor Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am not sure why there has to be a logistical reason. The former observation car was probably a Renaissance car and that was located at the very back of the train, so they never bothered to reconfigure the cars. I was fine with it, as long as the dining car was within close walking distance.

Great video. Does the last row of PE recline as much as rows 12 and 13? We are planning a trip from YYZ-ATH and know we don’t want row 12. Was your seat comfortable for sleeping?
@village_mayor Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes it does recline as much as the last row (my parents also flew PE and sat on in the middle rows and last row on different flights). I normally don't sleep on the flight but it was more comfortable as there was more legroom and the seat was wider. You can also recline without disrupting someone behind you. The only thing (and is standard on any airline I think) is the arm rest does not flip up because the trays are stowed there, as well as little cubby spaces for the water bottle.
@boobie17 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely awful airline with ridiculously high prices . I was looking into a one-way ticket from GRU to YYZ for this month . Three days ago, the price was $805 ,still a steep price to pay for Economy one-way. Then all of a sudden , price skyrocketed to $1879 !!!! Absolutely preposterous, especially considering prices of the competition. I ended up purchasing a ticket with Copa ,a much better airline, for $749 .
@village_mayor Жыл бұрын
I agree with you, prices have been so ridiculous in 2023. The same flight, same meals, same service but tickets went from $1300 round trip to $2000. The excuse has always been fuel prices and lack of staff. And yes, other airlines are better. Case in point, other airlines have ice cream in economy class, but AC doesn't. Sounds whiny, but if I am paying that much to fly, at least offer ice cream like other airlines do, and not the standard brownie.

I absolutely do disagree with you. And in some trans-Atlantic flights you have to pay for any checked luggage. And with the fares much more expensive than pre-Covid. I am not happy about as there isn't much rationale for it. There are other alternatives such as AA or Delta for much cheaper. This flight is direct which is a price I hav to pay for. But the experience I had was still pretty decent. Worth it? that is a personal decision.
