Do you happen to know the history of this skidder? My dad's first skidder was a model 20 and used it in Southern Oregon. He traded it in on a custom model 22 in 69 or 70. The model 20 then went back to Enumclaw.

What is the voltage on the starting/ charging system? I have 3 to get running and can't find any real info on them. Early 60s. 6, 12, 24?
@jecceworks4 жыл бұрын
Looking at the batteries, they are in series so 24v
@BigLeo87724 жыл бұрын
Of the 3 I did, one was 12 volt. One was 24 volt. And one was positive ground. Since all 3 had the batteries missing, I wasn't able to visually decide which way any of it was at first. I got all 3 started.

This could make a good small engine for a boat.

I agree, but 100hp in a boat isn't much however it would sound really good

I have an old stationary diesel, and want it on the water. it's difficult to find a displacement or semi-displacement project boat if you live away from salt water, at least in the niche size range I want. I have also considered building a "launch" (old timey riverboat) if I can find a design for sheet metal, or stumble upon a small lobster boat with no engine. I think a single or twin cylinder diesel at low RPM sounds like a nice river cruise to me 👍

Aluminum prices are pretty good right now. That engine is worthless, unless you need a shitload of torque and nothing else.

A 3-53 that runs and sounds healthy, with a clutch and transmission, I would guess is worth several thousand dollars?

It actually sounds like a 3 cyl 4 stroke diesel.

I bought 2 of those engines in Canton Ohio, they were all relatively low hours, the military scrapped the gama goat because it rolled over fairly easily. 24 volt is a bit of a pain, but swap out the starter and your good to go. I ran one in a F150 for 20 yrs.

Hi there, I'm thinking on put one of these in a '95 F150, but I'm concerned about the truck being too heavy for this engine. Please let me know what would be your recommendations??
@earlgateman3755 Жыл бұрын
It won't be a powerhouse but it will be drivable. Even with aluminum block it is still a heavy engine compared to stock gasers. It is also a tall engine that may be a challenge to get in between front axle and hood. Oh, and buy a pair of ear muffs.@@gustavo13ser

My dad's first skidder was a model 20 Garrett. He added the side bars like your's has. Would love to find it an restore it.

What kind of camera are you recording with? No distortion and the clarity is great. Great motor btw, 353s aren't that common, let alone aluminum blocks.

Remember, any circumstance when you run an engine on a stand....especially for a length of time(thermostat opened)....one should purge the system (any system) of air-pockets within the cooling system. Your coolant exit pipe here as shown can allow for air pockets to develop.....granted, short runs are just fine...but the "exit" pipe should be pointed up for some 10 inches, then elbowed off....Some engines are notorious for not lasting long when air-pockets are not accounted for, the Ford 2.9L V6 immediately comes to mind.

Seeing as the water comes out above the top of the head there and that hose does not appear to be siphoning... wouldn't it be fine in this case, although as you say it would be best for the hose to be pointed up to be sure. Also, most people that comment on this issue come across as rather arrogant, its good to see someone that knows how to provide friendly advice for a change.
