We would go nut's if we weren't allowed to watch hooked on fishing as kids, I had the pleasure of meeting Paul in Mike's tackle shop in Portobello before it closed as well and nowadays I'm a fishing addict

The miracle is that back then we caught carp on basic tackle using field craft, Chris being a master of his craft. If you were wise and you caught a big fish from an unknown water that anyone could fish you kept it quiet.

In all honesty i rekon this is a tall tale to keep the mystery of carp fishing and the legend of Redmire alive.

Come back when you've caught a 51lb carp on 3 grains of sweetcorn

Redmire was never stocked with any common, but was stiocked with 50 mirrors. So I don't know where the Commons came from .

@sellobic I'm not much of a carp fisherman but my best was a 35.8 on a piece of floating white bread. I still think Mr Yates likes a tale though.

Tuna have been in UK waters for years. Though they seem to be showing more and more. It's solely catch and release though.

I wonder if this was the fish Eddie Price photographed in 58? He was over it in his punt and the head was one side, the tail the other. Around 4ft long and 24- years old. So by 79 when Chris and Rod saw it? It was 45- years old and maybe maxed out at 5ft? Who knows but these guys saw it up close and knew what big carp looked like. Shame it wasn’t caught, it would still be the record now.
