Lovely museum. I had no idea that the🐪🐪🐫 camel was part of Chinese culture. I learned something new today 😊 thank you.

Yes! Bactrian camels have played a minor role in Chinese culture for thousands of years and, in Beijing, were used as beasts of burden even into the 20th century.

Greetings Adam from Holly Schomer on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in Ft Thompson S.D. I've been enjoying this series. A request. There's painted signs over some of the door ways. Could you possibly translate. They have 3 characters each usually.thank you in advance 😊

Thanks, Holly, for your comment and request! If you have a certain text you're especially curious about, feel free to leave a comment noting the time in the video or you could send me an email with a screenshot. Another option you may be interested in exploring would be Google Translate and other online tools to translate Chinese into English for a basic understanding of the content. I would love to translate the placards and signs and explain them to you and others in my audience, but, for now, I apologize that I just don't have the time. In the future, I'd like to put together videos with commentary explaining the history, art, architecture, and other aspects of the sites in my videos. In those features, I'd likely translate some of the placards.

People in Cabcal use to play a more competitive game with gacuha. A group of gamers first chuck their gacuha on the ground, then try to hit other one's gacuha with their own ones, to earn score or gain other's gacuha as reward. Sometime the dice might be thrown quite far, like about 6 meters, but a skillful player even gets a hit in that distance

The Chinese name for this café is 有米餐廳小廚. I’ve seen that it’s been called Youmi Restaurant Chef, Youmi Restaurant, and Youmi Food on various sites, so I’m not sure whether the business has an official English name. If you are aware of or able to find one, please let me know, and I’ll update the title and description of this video. Thanks!

The Chinese character 喜 is read /hay/ or /hei/ (hei2) in Cantonese and /xǐ/ in Mandarin. As Cantonese is the primary branch of Chinese spoken in Hong Kong, this kind of rendering of local pronunciation into a script accessible to those who cannot read Chinese is a notable phenomenon.

In preparing the description for this video, I reflected on the beauty of the Chinese transliteration of George. 佐治 approximates the English sound through the Cantonese pronunciation Zozi /zo3 zi6/ (and Mandarin Zuǒzhì) and may be translated literally as "Supporting Governance," "Assisting Stability," or some variation thereof. Another transliteration into Chinese, 喬治 (Mandarin Qiáozhì), which may be translated "Towering Governance," has its own appeal. An additional interesting point: As of the morning of Friday, Aug 9, 2024 (Beijing time), the statue's face is blurred on Google Street View. I suppose the statue is so realistically rendered that the recognition technology couldn't differentiate the statue from a human.

At the beginning of the video, Paul Moss tells me about a Japanese garden in Syracuse, Nebraska. I haven't yet made the trip down there to try and find it, but a Lincoln Journal Star article from Sep 17, 2005 notes its location on 11th St. Please post a comment here if you're able to find and view it!

FYI: This video has been age restricted by KZbin, and I have no idea why. I appealed the restriction just a minute ago, so, if they lift the restriction, it will be an admission of error, likely by some kind AI detection system.
