Or maybe this video card is claiming memory address that the PicoGUS needs?

That GPU is period appropriate, but 300mhz K6 is wayyy down what we really used when RTCW was released. Think more of 800mhz to 1,2Ghz.
@metonAlternate2 күн бұрын
Yeah, you need a AMD K6-3 / K6-III+ / K6-2+ in that, the latter two, being late parts and made with smaller trace length process than the first K6-2/3s over clock well, so you can run them at 500-600Mhz, usually with 133Mhz FSB if available. LOL. This is an unplayable slide show. Also the GF2 is going to waste here. AMD K6-2 does not have on die L2 cache worth a damn and depends upon the motherboard having this. Most socket 7 boards do not even come with that, or have shit and slow cache. LOL

Was the framerate pretty bad there, or was that just an illusion caused by the CRT-on-video-flickering strobe light? I personally played this one on a 1.3GHz Core2Duo laptop with integrated Intel 4400mhd graphics after my desktop pc died.

That's why I run 900 MHZ athlon with Radeon 9550. But the result of your render is good actually, even if slow.

I don't want to join in on all of the "I remember using this", but I remember using this - you didn't have UVW Unwrapping, you had to have a 16x16 texture per face/polygon, so from memory each polygon stretched a single 1:1 texture corner to each vertex. And I think about 5 - 10 undo levels. I absolutely loved R4 and again don't want to say 'it was before the internet', but 'it was before the internet' and had to buy a book from Waterstones to learn it. When Max came out it felt so overwhelming! Correct me on these memories if I'm wrong! I've used 3d studio Max pretty much everyday since 2000, through Autodesk, Discreet, Kinetix and back to Autodesk - I love it and it all started with R3 and R4. Incidentally, we had a 'render farm' in Sony Europe studio in, it screen rendered the same speed as this - they rendered the original Twister film CGI in there. :)

So it takes 4 minutes to render a 800x600 image, which means if this is a game, the MMX machine can run it at 0.00417 FPS at 800x600 with said graphic effects!

Great memories. I used to work few years with 3DS4. At the very end new 3DS Max came out that actualy was able to start on Win95. Well we didn't had money to buy Max so we kept the old horse. One of my coworkers did once model for architecture building. He put so much glass on the model that one frame rendered for almost 2 days. We also tried network rendering where one PC controlled slave PC's and spread the workload around albeit with human input.

I still remember the DOS version 4.0 before they changed its name to 3D Studio MAX with the introduction of the Windows version. Nice setup, there. What VGA are you using? A Pentium 200 Mhz rig used to be high-end for a consumer product in the late 90s. But I don't remember we had LCD Monitors back then... only CRTs.
