Stunningly good video. Thanks for putting this together. As a result of watching this video I have more appreciation as to the high cost of cameras....

Just so everyone knows, the Sony 'Bright Monitoring' will only work in Manual Focus. Kind of makes sense as the camera would not be able to focus on a very dark image from the sensor.

Although this video is not for me as I have years and years of experience I watched the video and can tell that besides the great content, you have an exceptional skill to deliver it and teach the important stuff. I wish you all the best. Subscribed!

An ADC converts an analogue voltage directly into a digital number, not into a sort of "digital voltages" - that quantized waveform as you show in your video (what would be the point?). The output is typically 12 or 14 digits for consumer cameras.
@DanFoxАй бұрын
An ADC does, in fact, convert analog voltages to digital voltages after sampling. That's how the binary values can be determined, based on the voltage step size. The binary values don't simply magically pop into existence. But yes, digital values (numbers) are output, as I said in the video. And again, I chose to gloss over some of the technical explanations for sake of the average viewer (as I also said in the video 😉).

in my a7cii i noticed that if i shoot at the lowest (second base ISO), i get tons of noise, even hot pixels in my shadows, so now i always shoot at the ISO that gives me the best brightness for my low light shot and then actually turn it down a bit in Post if i need to. Granted i actually suspect my camera has an excessive noise issue, although many people already told me it's normal (i don't think tons of gigantic clusters of white pixels in the shadows is normal but oh well).
@DanFoxАй бұрын
Check that your camera doesn't have automatic pixel remapping turned off.

My A7cii is terrible at Low ISO in dark settings, if i try pulling the shadows it's unbearable, tons of bright pixel noise. Lately i've been sacrificing sharpness and just turn the ISO up to a setting that i don't really need to pull exposure or shadows up after, sometimes i'll go as high as 12800 ISO easily, ofc sharpness is meh but the 33mpx make up for it. I wonder if i have a problem with my camera though, all this noise in the shadows is weird
@DanFoxАй бұрын
See my reply to your other comment. Yes, it's possible you have a defective unit, but it may just be a specific setting, too.

What a great video, I have learned alot! I do have a question though, just to see if I understand it correctly. Let's say I am photographing birds and I need a high shutterspeed, 1/2000 for example. Let's assume an aperture of F/8. For a correct exposure I would for example need ISO3200, i.e. the brightness meter = 0. Would I get nearly exactly then same result using ISO400 on a Sony A7IV and then raising it 3 stops in post production? And would that increase my dynamic range? I've seen videos where they compare 2 photos with exactly the same settings except for ISO. Where for one image they expose correctly and for the other they expose correctly in post processing, where then the post processed image shows alot more noise. That confused me a bit.

I love your detailing Dan. My question is simple. Do you dial into video mode and shoot manual movie mode? or you leave it at manual dial and just change picture profile?
@DanFox2 ай бұрын
Definitely switch to movie mode. The video you can shoot from the photography mode has very limited settings that you can change.

Sony has documented three OSS lenses that the OSS does not work on the original three A7 bodies: SELP1650, SEL1855, and SEL55210.

Thanks. Do you keep BBF button depressed while taking the shot, or do you release and then press shutter?
@DanFox2 ай бұрын
Depends on the mode you're in. If you're in DMF or AF-S, just press and release. If in AF-C holding in will help you when tracking.

I just found you and your KZbin channel this morning. I absolutely ❤ your very detailed and HONEST explanations on things. I just got done watching your video, "Overhyped Camera Gear". Having accumulated boxes full of what, you call it "gear", I call "the stuff" and now having to take photos (using "the stuff" that is actually useful such as a lens and, MAYBE, a CPL filter which I have found adds nice definition and "clarity") to try to sell it all on eBay. I'm not even certain how much of "the stuff" landed in my home except that it must have sailed in with packages that I purchased. I can't figure out how all "the stuff" even got here because there's no rhyme or reason for the sizes of the base threads as they don't fit any of the cameras I own. I also have a poop ton of adapter rings and I don't know why. OBVIOUSLY "the stuff" all sailed in when I didn't know what I was doing at all and probably purchased packages thinking I was getting useful "stuff" but" the stuff" doesn't even fit a single one of my lenses. I appreciate your taking the time, and you seem to be the only one on KZbin, to actually explain all of these things. I am only part way into THIS video but I usually get distracted into doing something else and I just wanted to personally thank you for your content before I forget to do it. Thank you for your content! You are very greatly appreciated! 👌💯
