just discovering your channel because I'm starting to prep for my first game as DM (for mothership) and everything was super useful, would love to see how you prepare a one shot in miro :)

How long, on average, would you say a single one of these guide cards took to design?
@AstralMarmot26 күн бұрын
I probably spent about two weeks on and off on them. If I focused up I could have knocked each one out in a week but focusing is not always my strong suit for obvious reasons.

I would love it if you could share that d100 table of questions you ask at the start of the session

I just added it to the description! I found the table online ages ago and I wish I remembered who I got it from. But hopefully it'll serve you well in your game!

Please please PLEASE POST A TUTORIAL ON HOW TO USE MIRO AS A GM. I am a new dungeon master, and I want to learn how to use miro from the perspective of a gm, so that I can get tips on how to organize, things to put in, and how to arrange them.

do you make a custom d100 table for asking characters questions or did you source one from somewhere to start yours?
@AstralMarmot27 күн бұрын
I sourced it from somewhere online years ago and I wish I could tell you where. I added a link in the description to a spreadsheet with all the questions in it. I hope it serves your game!

When you try to overprep, but fail to manage your focus and start your first session with a lot of really detailed notes but the important stuff was scribbled out in the hours before the session This video will definitely be helpful for the main campaign I'm working on! I've got some stuff written down, but that's mostly just fleshing out the initial idea for the world. Now I'm stuck unsure where to focus next. I'm so grateful I came across this today!

I hope this video helps you get that world fleshed out and your campaign rolling!

I have a version of miro for my campaign. Its a collection of loose papers of various sizes and quality of legibility. Oh and some of it isnt canon but just chaotic planning

Man, Miro looks pretty good, but I am not a fan of how much it seems to be using Generative AI with its features. Does anybody know of an online digital whiteboard that a group can collectively view and edit that doesn't use AI?

The content is nice. I want to say the following to help you make content: the video contains a looooooooooot of lingo that I don't understand as a new GM, player, and someone who doesn't know a lot of ADHD terms. I'm also not tech savy. Defining terms would be helpful. I am not a therapist or understand a lot about ADHD symptoms despite having it. Resources in the video need to be linked in the description. Good job pointing out theory vs reality! A lot of KZbinrs don't talk about this. :D
@AstralMarmotАй бұрын
I agree, those are great points to make my video better, thanks for the feedback! It's easy to forget what people know and what they don't and I can be more conscientious about defining terminology. I hope you continue to enjoy what I make!

Gotta love it when the advice one gives is actually auctionable, focused on the practical tools. You have no idea what a rare treasure that is (okay, you probably do, I'm just trying to say that I appreciate ya). Getting another take on how to categorise information is probably something I could use, too, some of us have a hard time gauging what their players want or need to know. 😅 Never heard of Miro before. I'm not that much of a visual type, I tend to produce text and tables and occasionally a database here and there when I organize information for myself, but I can see my players taking a shine to it!

My mind is blown by the idea of a player-facing collaborative digital white board! I will have to present my players with this idea and see how it works but I am sure that it would be a hit after the initial learning curve since it makes note taking more engaging and less stressful on one person alone.
@AstralMarmot26 күн бұрын
It's definitely a change from the traditional note-taking approach, but it can be super effective for keeping everyone on the same page. My players love it - I hope yours do too!

That with google forms looks like something I could use. It's hard for me to gather people because I'm aware of my limitations so I become so careful that I don't even reach out. But if I write out questions where people can click answers then I can get information without getting too drained before the actual session.

I must thank you for bringing up guides offering different points-of-view from different factions, and reinforcing the idea of the guide being in-universe. This not only solves some problems I'd been agonizing over for a while now, it's inspired a new opening session. In brief (yeau, right!) I'd wanted to open with a holiday/festival scenario (because I've used them before with good results), but couldn't choose what kind of holiday. While watching your video I decided to combine the weeklong county-fair "Honing Days" and sacred "Day Of St. Esquellon", with two short guides: one for locals & secular/peasant folk, and one for the upper-class/cosmopolitan gentry types. Each guide can then represent a specific world view, the dichotomy being a major focus of this setting. I have more than enough content for each (and a couple others, to be honest!), now it's just a matter of separating serf information from nobility. Thanks again! [edited for clarity & to say I've subscribed]

I think that this video has sat in my Watch Later for like 6 months. In that time, I have reworked my game system, shifted campaign ideas, "finished" a test module, and started on a new one that is my current campaign plan. None of this has anything to do with the video but I came back and watched it anyways and yes, yes I needed to hear this.

Spooky, but I too had a history teacher named Mr. B who was a balding German man with 4 fingers. The highlights of the stories he told us about it were: lost a bet with the shop teachers and they took it as payment, infection after top secret art heist went sour, and my personal favorite: Shark Attack. The man was also obsessed with cats and all his art history presentations were absolutely riddled with them. I miss that crazy man.

I have recorded a one-on-one session where my player was running 4 PCs, and afterward I was able to use Whisper SpeechToText to turn it into text, and it did a really good job. I was even able to then have chatgpt summarize and itemize stuff for me. Sometimes playing with those tools is enough to get me excited to do book-keeping.

Thank you for this series of videos. This episode has been particularly helpful in my own campaigns, as I generally play solo games, to play test new ideas for my players. Most times I have some difficulty explaining to the Players what is in the randomly created journeys that have been created for my solo characters. The suggestions that video expounds upon Related to "Travel Guides" has solved a lot of problems to make travel and exploration in a sandbox campaign more appealing to my Players. I am grateful for you great ideas! wishing you peace, light, and love, and barring that, A shiny new +2 weapon that will be useful to your adventuring travels!
