I agree 110% with you. I own the Sonnar from the beginning...and now I bought the 1,4/50mm GM and not the 1,2 as I did not wanted to have a heavy piece (I have already the 1,4/85GM I...super bokeh but sooo heavy).... I have read and watched so many good raving reviews about the GM...but I maybe will sell the GM and stay with the 55mm. What I found: - My 1,8/55mm is a bit frontfocussed and I have not yet found on the Sony ar7v a MicroAF setting to correct that. This is an issue. - The 55mm is byfar not as sharp as the 50mm wide open. From 2,8 on its hard to tell who is who. So, With the 55mm I get two lense: One creamy at 1.8 and one tack sharp at 2.8. Its not a bug. its a Cool feature. You should have seen the 1,4 Planar of Contax in the old days... - The Bokeh of the 1,8/55mm is nicer than the 50mm which is a but less smooth, more technical looking. This comes a bit as a unpleasant surprise, but my impression is the 50mm is more a 47mm and the 55mm more a 56mm...Their angle of view is quiet different...and there goes the advantage if the 1,4 vs. 1,8... - I LOVE the light weight and small form factor of the 55mm !!! - I LOVE the narrower view of 55mm over 47mm !!! and not as extreme as the 85 mm yet.

I used 55mm and decided to upgrade to 50mm F1.2 The main theme for these lenses is for portraits. I do find that 50mm F1.2 is a tad sharper and the aperture ring on the body complements my work flow. However, I still keep that 55mm for videography work.

After turning the low cut off (on by default) in DJI Mic 2, the clarity edge Røde had to my ear, is gone. This product and all other 32bit float devices, are more about how to EQ and get the most out of the files in editing. That and ofc getting the best possible audio to work with 😊

@EgillBjarki
@EgillBjarki 8 ай бұрын
I have seen other people online having a set of 3rd party lav working well on one unit, but needing to be borderline unplugged on the other. (Tony & Chelsea Northrup). If my mics worked on previous version and not the new, I’m guessing DJI changed something. Hopefully not just to boost lav mic sales, but to improve something.

Thanks allot for the watch and comment. Anamorphic lenses in general are great for capturing panoramic landscapes. In fact, a few months back I went on a full week road trip in the US, and almost exclusively used an 85mm anamorphic lens. Love the results and am definitely inclined to use anamorphic lenses for photography.

I have one question for you bro, now I have a sony a7 iii, 55mm zeiss and 35 mm gm, should I buy a new camera (sony a7 r5) or 50 mm 1.2 gm or 135 mm gm? What would you do?
@EgillBjarki
@EgillBjarki 10 ай бұрын
If you can comfortably afford it, if the upgrade will spark you being more active, I would say go for it. Both 50mm 1.2 GM and 135mm 1.8 GM are some of, if not the most sharp lenses in E mount. Great system investment! BUT, what you have, is really good stuff! At least in terms of photography. If I just could have one lens, it most likely would be 35mm GM.

That would be interesting, given the H2’s 8k is 4:2:2 vs the A1’s being 4:2:0. Outside of sharpness, the difference would probably be more noticeable after doing some heavy color grading.

I bought the 55 f1.8 Zeiss back in 2015. Got the 50GMf1.2 in 2021. Got the 50f2.5 in 2022. For 80% of the video work, the 55f1.8 is perfect in its imperfections. For demanding images or perfection, I go to the 50f1.2. The 50 f2.5 is kind of bland so I don't use it any more.

Yes, both of those cameras are nice Of course very hard to tell video quality on the KZbin video due to the compression For video shooters, the Fuji a good proposition But of course, the Sony A1 is a superior camera in most ways Better auto focus, better in low light etc So for those who are primarily into video, the Fuji is a good value Now Sony is about to come out with the a 6700. An apsc It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Fuji
@EgillBjarki
@EgillBjarki Жыл бұрын
Totally agreed, fantastic cameras! You are spot on, Sony does have an edge in most areas, but at a steep price point. Fuji has an absolutely amazing value proposition! I wonder what the A6700 will be like, perhaps very similar to FX30? Except it will have more photo centric abilities, but will it match FX30 on video specs?
@Eyeofkamau
@Eyeofkamau Жыл бұрын
Agreed, although, both suffer the same amount of compression so the differences can still be spotted, like @1:09 it’s very noticeable. But where the real difference sits is in things like Dynamic range, Exposure Latitude, signal to noise ratio, sensor readout, etc. The XH2s has a 14bit readout internally, while the A1 is 12bit. The fuji also has better rolling shutter performance and exposure latitude, plus open gate, internal ProRes, and external prores raw and blackmagic raw recording. These are areas where it steps ahead of the A1. Overall, the A1 is the better hybrid camera - absolutely takes it when it comes to photography, but I would take the XH2s for cinematography (where things like lowlight and AF are more often than not a nonfactor). 14bit video was reserved for high end cinema cams before the xh2s came. Now that the a6700 released, it’s fair to say it’s more comparable to fuji’s entry level apsc, the XS20 - which I would say the sony is a bit behind. Both good cams, but the XH2s is in an apsc league of its own.

@EgillBjarki
@EgillBjarki Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, people drop their lenses, de-centering them or worse. Some lenses also come straight out of manufacturing not 100%. I always try out lenses in the store, take a shot parallel straight on a flat surface and zoom into the corners, there should be equal loss of sharpness at the very top/bottom corners.

Have you noticed much rolling shutter effect using anamorphic on the a7iv? My understanding is that it increases the rolling shutter effect when using anamorphic. In this case by the same factor as the squeeze - x1.8. I'm considering getting the a7iv because its a good all rounder yet I wonder if the a7siii/fx3/zv-e1 might be a better option for anamorphic. Also! Have you by chance tried Sony's Catalyst Browse software for stabilising and/or correcting rolling shutter when using the greatjoy? Would be a great test to see if it works. Might you consider doing a video on that? Thanks for the great content!
@EgillBjarki
@EgillBjarki Жыл бұрын
I have noticed a bit of a “wobble” to the image, but I think that may have more todo with the IBIS rather than rolling shutter. A7sIII has a faster sensor readout compared with A7IV, but people have the same issue there, using anamorphic lenses. Perhaps Sony did not anticipate anamorphic lens use when designing IBIS, they have only just recently, in 2023 added anamorphic de-squeeze via firmware in FX3 and FX30. The FX3 might be the best option with Sony for that reason, but I would honestly strongly consider Panasonic S5ii. They not only have a ibis mode for anamorphic lenses, but also an open gate 4:3 full sensor mode. Regarding Catalyst Browse, I personally don’t like the workflow. You currently need to first stabilize your footage and then export for your editing program. Unless you pay for a plugin within Adobe. Also, to get the best results, you need to shoot the footage at a very high shutter angle, to avoid motion blur. I personally much more prefer the smoother look of the 180 degree shutter angle. I have opted using a gimbal in the cases I need stable footage. I’m also quite certain that if you attempt to use the stabilizer in Catalyst Browse on an anamorphic lens, the horizontal flares will come out moving or at different angles, depending on how the camera is tilted. I might be wrong, could be worth a test! I’m getting the Great Joy 85mm this week, could be interesting to see if Catalyst Browse is a viable solution to the IBIS wobble. Appreciate you sharing these thoughts Raymond, thank you for commenting 😊
