Tosca was incredibly naive to think Scarpia would keep his word. The look that Cavaradossi gives her at 0:39 shows he knows only too well. I'm sure I'm not wrong. He knows he is saying good-bye forever. And Spoletta's grim, mocking smile at 2:13 is chilling.

Two stately, majestic queens. May both their souls rest in peace! A bit off-topic, growing up as a boy in Jamaica, we had the entire set of the British made Britannica Encyclopedia, both the regular volume and the volume for kids. Who here in this digital age even remembers what an encyclopedia was? Anyway, I was absolutely fascinated by both volumes and read through every article one by one - that probably took 2 years or so. When I came to the article on music in the kid's volume, it featured a complete lesson on the basics of music theory including the names of the keys on the keyboard. I pestered my parents for a keyboard and when they finally relented, would place my little fingers on the keyboard, EXACTLY as stated and pictured in the encyclopedia. I then slowly started learning how to play the song featured in the encyclopedia, "God save the Queen", albeit a simplified version for kids containing just melody and bass. So that's how I first learnt to play the piano, and "God save the Queen" was the first piece I ever learnt to play. To this day I still get goosebumps whenever I hear that piece and Jessye Norman's rendition is perhaps the best I've heard so far.
