I have just come across this video after photographing the Scots pine trees next to this facility and was wondering what it was, thank you for this and it's most interesting to me 😊📸👍

I really like CO2 since it is "the gas of life".

This is typical IPCC nonsense/propaganda. Surface melt and total melt-day area for the Greenland Ice Sheet at the end of the 2021 spring season was below the 1981 to 2010 average. Snowfall and rain (minus runoff) added mass to the ice sheet. As of June 20, the total mass gain for the ice sheet since September 2020 was slightly above average. There was a spike from June 25 to June 27.

My question is "what are the simplest or the best things we can do after this period to keep CO2 levels low after this period for as long as possible?"
@ICOSRI4 жыл бұрын
This is a very good question and something we will cover in the next CO2FFEE with ICOS video on consumer choices on Friday!

It is good to find some good contents about this topic, the pubblic debate keeps understimating the health-climate relations!

During the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a lot of talk from politicians about "following the science" and "trusting experts", do you think attitudes towards climate scientists and global warming may change after the pandemic has ended? Do you think people may see the crisis as more urgent?
@wernerkutsch79054 жыл бұрын
I think what people have learned from the Covid-19 crisisis that "following the science" helps a lot to solve a crisis. The climate crisis is slow that's perhaps the reason why politicians think they have not to respond now. However. the symptoms of the crisis are becoming more severe. And the urgency to act as well.

@@wernerkutsch7905 I hope politicians continue their faith in science.

The latest findings show that public trust in science has increased since the coronavirus outbreak. It is, however, difficult to predict whether this will have a long-term effect or not. ICOS, as an organization that was set up to provide the trustworthy information to support policy- and decision-making to combat climate change and its impacts, is of course hoping that public's trust in science and confidence in the scientific community will only increase - because, after all, climate change is as urgent challenge as the ongoing corona crisis. Having a dialogue with young people and public as such was the main motivation why we are hosting CO2FFEE chats.

I don't know about the Netherlands, but Fridays for Future demonstrations have currently been banned in Germany. What options are there now to reach as many people as possible?

Erik has mentioned in his premiere chat reply Fridays for Future Netherlands is trying to organize more online activities.

Great video! Wanted to ask if you worry that once lockdown is eased within numerous countries, people will seek overseas travel and increase the use of fossil fuels as a result?
@ICOSRI4 жыл бұрын
That's always a worry. On the other hand we could also be optimistic and hope that many will cut down on travel, especially for business as many of us have become quite good at online meetings. Fingers crossed!
@wernerkutsch79054 жыл бұрын
That's what we have learned from previous crises, e.g. the financial crisis: the year after the emisssions increased severely again. And that's the reason that we have to raise our voices for a green recovery.
@ICOSRI4 жыл бұрын
It is difficult to predict people's behavior. There might of course be increase in the travels after the lockdown is eased, as people will want to visit their families and close-ones. In the long term though, our assumption is that the lockdown will not increase the travelling - it could even decrease it, when companies and organisations get more used to remote working.
