I remember ploughing like this in the mid1970s. An International 784 and a 674 chained together to pull a 2 furrow Lemken plough.

Crop will grow fine there. U dont need dust for wheat to grow. Might be a little thinner on headland where trailers were filled but would the alternative be better watching the headland fill with water and maybe not get on until next march.....too late for winter wheat then.

Improvised quadtrac.. if it works, why not. Get it done now, get some frost on it, is the smart way to go

i would say not the best thing to do and I understand its been wet but this is not great better to just cultivate in a dryer period or direct drill , but we do not know the circemstsnces

Thats one way to make a quad track, lol. Poor farmers must have had a terrible year if it's that wet and they are that deaperate. That is an unbelievably expensive way to cause a huge amount of compaction

They’re on tracks - very little compaction. Look at the amount of rubber on the ground compared to tyres.

@tumshiepuss I'm aware of the low psi from tracks. I'm an agricultural engineer and also a farmer. I don't care how low your ground pressure is, anytime you are working in soil that wet it has a major negative impact due to the moisture in the soil and the weight of all that water

@@8DeereFarm I’m a farmer and an engineer myself. We have a John Deere 8410T. It could drive over a wet field and cause less compaction than a Wellington boot - it couldn’t pull anything though because as soon as the tracks start to slip they fill with mud and don’t clean. These guys aren’t causing much compaction.

Think the idea is to make the water drain away by taking the wheelings out duals all round would leave more wheelings its only 3 m wide Perhaps one day it might dry out but not this year now Perhaps waiting for a frost might have been a good idea

everyone asking why riding in mud. they need to get the beets out of the soil, probably because of freeze. that will destroy the fruit.

Seems like a good idea to me given the circumstances, they have a low PSI as well so not much compaction really, probably no more psi than a human foot print or a cart horse.

Steel tracks would have no problem. The rubber tracks just fill up with mud. We have a John Deere 8300T. If it’s wet, it’s best left in the shed.

Been there, done that. Wet autumn in the UK. It's far from ideal but sometimes you have no choice.

Throwing money at the job in the wrong place. An old D6 with STEEL tracks would've bossed this. Or even an in furrow plough setup.

Why not tie the tire with two cables? It is much easier for tractors, there is no big swing and it has better cushioning I have been doing this for years
