Great video! What did you put your hole for the seed with? Do you cover these or use a light or what?
@AnneGoggansQHHT8 ай бұрын
Broccoli and cauliflower cannot be stressed by crowding, dryness, oe temperature or they won’t size up. Do that and they’ll be fine. Compact the soil around roots. They are flowers 😃

I’ll never forget the year that I lost a ten year old Rosemary. It looked like a miniature Christmas tree Thick and fragrant. I’ve never grown a rosemary like it since. The search continues.

I love the german white garlic. I grew it last year and was able to replant this year. They taste wonderful. I also planted ischelium red which was tasty, but not as good as the german white.

Also would love to know how you irrigate your garden with all the containers. Do you hand water?
@thebackwoodsgardener Жыл бұрын
@@meharris0925 we mostly let nature do the watering itself as much as we can in both of our gardens. But, we do water our transplants and seeds in by hand or with a soaker hose irrigation set-up as needed early on weather depending. Beyond that, we try to let the rain do it's thing and only water if necessary through out the growing seasons.

Great repurpose! Have you had any issue with predators getting in the gaps?
@thebackwoodsgardener Жыл бұрын
We closed the gaps by overlaying a little chicken wire tied to the poles with wire ties. No predators what so ever.

Are those 2x6 boards in the raised beds? Did y'all put any cardboard in the bottom for the grass?
@thebackwoodsgardener Жыл бұрын
Mrs Melissa, those are 2"x12" boards and yes, we did lay cardboard over the grass when we built them years ago. No need for landscape fabric, the cardboard works great and the worms love them as they start to decompose. Thank you for watching!

Correction, some beds are 2"x6" and others are various sizes. Make do with what you have laying around the property is my motto.

I'm in Blount County Alabama and planted Alabama Red last year for the first time. I always planted Clemson Spineless before but have switched to Alabama Red. Where did you get your seeds?
@thebackwoodsgardener Жыл бұрын
Hey Brother! I got these seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, but Southern Exposure Seed Exchange also carries them. I order seeds regularly from both seed companies and i can assure you that both Baker Creek and Southern Exposure have great seed quality. I recomnend either of the two. Thanks for watching!

Happy New Year! Glad u r back. Thanks for the video. That flash freeze really did a number up here in North Bama. My 15 year old Rosemary is probably done for. Gonna give it till late April to see if any of it recovers. Thanks again

Im just gonna go ahead and assume my rosemary will have to be replanted this year. That cold snap was something we dont see a lot of here. But spring is right around the corner now. Restart, redo, and renew.

I was surprised as well this year that my rosemary didn't make it. Even though that was a hard freeze I expected the rosemary to withstand it. Guess Not!
@thebackwoodsgardener Жыл бұрын
That cold snap was pretty extreme. If the Rosemary were a few years old, and had a more established root system, it may have survived this winter. We probably won't see temps that cold for that long again here anytime soon. But ... Better luck next year. I'm ready to start planting some crops.

Its great to see what can be done with stuff people no longer want. I made my veg patch fence from the steel wire industrial shelves from a big box store. They were replacing the shelf bits with wood so stuff didnt fall thru. Right place right time i asked they said its yours free...or we have to pay to remove...6 steel panels perfect for the fence but can be used for many projects again later on.

❤️❤️ That lil one of yours is adorable!! Too funny with that chicken run. 🐔 We had close to 70 free range chickens when we packed up and left our lil farm in Florida. The new owners were set!! Some would house themselves up at night and all we had to do was shut the door. The other half would tree themselves. Seriously, they would fly up into the trees at night and fly down in the morning.
