hi. im a drummer and have a prolonged (5 year) stress fracture in my right foot from the bass drum pedal in the second and third metatarsals. i also made it worse by running. is there anything that you can recommend for my feet? i need to be able to play drums for two hours a day. i usually play high intensity rock n roll. its my life. i had switched to barefoot running shoes both for running and drumming and they may have caused problems.

This is junk science. No where does he mention any of the math or physics to support his claims. For a 200 lb person the difference between running on Concrete and Asphalt is 1/16 of a human hair. Yes on a hot day the asphalt will be softer but so will your bottoms of your sneakers. Its all in your head! If you get shin splints it's not because your running surface is to hard it's because your your Calf muscles are being work so much that they are pulling on your tibialis muscles. Learn how your body works and your body will work better.

Loved the video. Good examples of what clients should take responsibility for. I've had cases where it seemed clients didn't know what they should be bringing to their doctor's attention. I realized that when we would have general conversations, and they would randomly mention things to me. My response would be: Ok. What did your doctor say about it? Their response would always be: Oh. I didn't know/think that was important, or had anything to do with what's going on. Those were ah-ha moments for me. They really didn't know what they should be sharing. Is it wrong to think the doctor should be asking those probing questions to find the missing pieces and make it make sense?
@DocOnTheRun
@DocOnTheRun 3 күн бұрын
Totally agree! It isn't whether or not doctors should be asking those probing questions. They should, but often just don't. Unfortunately we as athletes will realize that many of them are going to and figure out how to work around it.

I had plantar fascia surgery Feb 6th 2024 followed everything to a T. Is been three months and I was feeling great until I developed a small pain at the back of the arch where the heel starts. It was tolerable. I went for a walk on a flat trail and my entire arch began to hurt tremendously. I was hobbling back to my car. Now my whole arch is in pain. Do you think I could have torn the fascia? I seriously haven’t even biked or hiked just normal day to day

I’m confused with my calves cause my left calve is bulky and bigger however my right is smaller but has more definition. By the way my left ankle sprained twice, it was when I was playing basketball and volleyball. However my right I have only sprained it once which was in soccer. Right now am doing calve raises but more on the right and it doesn’t seem to quite be working rather it’s getting more definition.

Hi there, I had a bone scan and have been diagnosed with “Tiny stress fracture right mid femur associated with very mild periosteal reaction and moderate focal osteolytic activity.” It has been roughly six weeks since I had the major pain and stopped running about 5 weeks back. I have not had any pain walking for about 4 weeks, and have tried a few runs over the last couple of weeks and I can notice a dull ache in the area when running, but not painful at all. Also can hop on the affected leg pain free. How long would you recommend before beginning running again. Is it normal to have a little ache when returning? Also the scan was done a week ago.

I had this pain for years, thinking it was from previous injuries and tying my shoes too tight. I found out after wearing looser socks that it wasn't my footwear at all. Almost all "normal" socks seem far too tight around the mid-foot. I now wear looser socks, or carefully cut some of the elastics out of tight ones, and i havent had any trouble with this since. Hope this helps someone out

You know what I find annoying is that some of the Ortho docs I dealt with when I fractured my foot were careless with handling the fracture and providing adequate treatment, as if feet are not important. Yet our feet are the primary foundation that keeps us balanced and stable from falls that can lead to multiple fractures and lengthy hospital stays.

Seriously! You literally said an Achilles tendon injury without or with surgery means an end to one’s running… also Achilles tears in athletes generally do not come with a warning light… it may rupture without any indication it is injured. So saying don’t get one is stating the obvious…how about offering a more accurate description of what you could expect and obviously the challenge of getting back to normal or at least to the best possible form with said injury.

Could I ask you one quick question? I happened to hurt my rib bone (on my right hand side) while reaching something through the open window of my car. I got an instant jolt while slouching down, which might have caused pressure onto my rib bones. Well, I feel discomfirt as I cough or laugh, but still can keep running with not much pain. Could this be a crack? (FYI, I have no bruise on the area) If so, should I not run?

I have been running endurance runs between 5 and 6 mph for the past 2 months. Yesterday I was doing interval runs getting up to speeds of 7.5 mph at times. I felt no problems after the run but the next morning I noticed my left small toe ( 5th) black and blue. I notice it beginning to itch and swell. I think the extra speed caused my toe to extend and bend beyond which it is normally used to. I wrapped the 5th and 4th toe together in a make shift cast made of cotton and tape. I plan to run an easy mile today and I'll see if there is any pain. Hopefully it's not a stress fracture but only a torn tendon. I think if my toe was broken I would have noticed more pain after yesterdays interval run.

@@DocOnTheRun I ran the mile and have no pain at all. There is no unusual bending of the toe. I can move the toe without any pain. Since it is bruised there is a minimal tenderness but nothing that would hinder walking or normal running. I think I will soak it and wrap gently it in Coban tape. I run in carbon plated shoes that limit the bending of the toes so I’ll think I’ll be all right if I don’t push too hard.

Thank you for a good video! As I've had Hallux rigidus for several years, but I also have knee problems (probably related). My advice to anyone with similar issues is 1. Get good shoes with rocker sole and wide toebox (altra, hoka etc), and 2. Educate yourself and be curious, there are lots of alternative exercises you can do that build strenght. You don't need push-ups.❤
