My dream to record Mohiniyattam in the autumn leaves. It was very cold, dogs were chasing me a few times, thinking my steps are a sign of some kind of exotic beast moving in mysterious ways. Nevertheless, I achieved it. The Thillana is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Happy holidays in advance!

Hello Irina, your journey is incredible. Your performances are amazing! I wanted to point out something about the Divine Mother Goddess worship. The worship of snakes is actually separate- there is a concept of snakes having divine powers too. However, they are considered a lesser power than Devi, Vishnu , Shiva etc. Snakes are called “Nagathaanmar”. It is true that the communities that worship Divine mother also worship the Nagams or snakes, but they are not the same. There is a mohiniyattam piece composed by Dr. Methil Devika called Sarpatathwam in which she explains the spiritual point of view to this worship as well. I am so impressed by your dedication to the art form of mohiniyattam . It is brilliant that you are trying to use this beautiful art form for helping women with their mental health. All the best to you! From a fan (born and raised in a Nair family from Kerala that worships both Devi and Nagams)

Thank you so much for your insightful comment. And it is incredibly valuable to hear the insiders' information! I did see Methil Devika's item. What i have read is that they snake worship and devi worship kind of merged as vedic influence spread to Kerala. But it's definitely an interesting topic for debate. Whay is fascinating for me is the divine femininity, as a power, and it's portrayal either through snake (aka nature) or official religious goddess

Hi Irena, I’m 48 and I have been learning mohiniyattam online since 2020 from my beloved guru Kalamandalam Jayalakshmi. I’m learning dhanasree thillana now😊.. I watch Kalamandalam Leelamma Teacher videos and then happened to see this performance. It is nice to see you doing the very traditional thillana with so much grace, you are enjoying doing it and your steps are so perfect 👌 loved it!

Dear friends, one of my first Mohiniyattam videos was Thillana Dhaneshree permormed in Minsk Belarus in 2016, kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIa0hX6eeLl9l6s it was just a year into learning Mohiniyattam and that video is still dear to me. I always wanted to re-record the video as a contemplation of my embodiment of this artform and how years allow it to sink in and be revised with its levels and layers, that Indian artforms give infinite possibilities and perspectives. Unexpected warm London weather allowed me to do it sooner rather than later. My best wishes to all!
