It's amazing how many songs most of us know only the choruses to.

I'm surprised this wasn't one done in the first years of Sheet Music Singer! It's from 1922, was a rather successful hit, was by a genius songwriting duo, and has a memorable melody. This song always brings me back to the beginning of my freshman year in August 2021. I graduate this year, so it is only fitting for me to revisit it now.

I was shocked to see 'Arranged by George Botsford' on the top of the sheet music. I know he was not fully retired by this time, but he practically was, with only one song left to write.

I was born in the late '40's....that's 1940's (not 1840's) wise guy! Anyway my old baby sitter Mrs. Alicia Ricker was born around 1880's and lo and behold she sang this lullaby to me. That is, of course, how I remember it. RIP Mrs. Ricker.

Thank you for continuing to fill in the Irving Berlin library. With only a little over 1,000 of his songs here on youtube, it's groovy to see more get added for folks to discover and enjoy.

Irving Berlin started by singing popular songs on the NYC streets and in bars. He found he could get more attention (and tips) by writing and singing parody lyrics. Next, he got hired to write lyrics as you hear in this song. After about a year of that he began to write the lyrics and music. His first hit was in 1910 "Call Me Up Some Rainy Afternoon".

Question on this sheet music for this song: what is "8.........." above the left hand cleff in the Chorus part of (starting at the 1:20 mark) under the lyrics "Nothing much would matter in the world today." I know it's got to do with the beat?
@sheetmusicsinger96512 күн бұрын
On the treble clef it means to play the right hand one octave higher (eight notes). You can hear it in the piano part.

Thank you. "Cute song" but kind of weak. If the CHORUS has more of a French flavor, it would've been a stronger song.

Thank you. SMS is a messenger of published sheet music. We didn't write history. It is similar to a mirror when you look into it. You see the good and the bad in the reflection. For better or worse it should be known that the klan was created in Tennessee at the end of slavery in the U. S. It had a resurgence caused by the 1915 silent film "The Birth of a Nation".
