Copyright hmmm... morality and ethics... hmmmm. Is any painting truly original, or are they all comprised of bits and pieces from others? I've seen so many boat paintings, not so original. Many Christmas card scenes. What if we ask AI for a watercolor of Machu Piccu in the style of Wesson and copy that? The copy wont even be perfect. I know if I were to have a go at this painting, nobody would mistake it for a Wesson. So morally, I think the issue is if you try to pass it off as the work of the artist. By signing it Wesson, for example. Personally, I would not sign it (because its not "my painting"), but I would have no problem in giving it away as a present to a friend. It's my time, my paints, and my not very good painting. What if I were good? Should I just change the colors a bit and move the boat to the other side? What if I add another sail? When does it become "mine"? So for me, it really comes down to SELLING. If you are directly copying an existing painting, you should not sign it. It's not yours to be proud of. And if its not yours to sign, its not yours to sell. But that really goes for all early works. Until you develop your own style, and its good, then you shouldnt be selling anyway, no matter how "original" it is. Who wants a reputation for junk? And if you arent selling it, I dont see the problem in keeping it. No need to destroy it. So for me, I think this is an issue for artists who are good enough to sell their work - and they dont need to and shouldnt want to - sell copies of others works when they can do their own stuff.
@EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art
@EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art Ай бұрын
Thank you. When I have the book from Wesson behind the easel, and I paint from the book instead of sitting in nature, of from a photo I took on vacation. than it is a copy for me. And when you move the boats around, put 14 trees in the front, alter the sky color, it stays a copy for me, because you became inspired from Wesson, and you just try to alter the painting to justify that it can or is yours. It is my learning moment, and if I learned from it, it is scrap paper for me. And don't put it in a box for no reason! I dont sell it, or give away. And I am a hobby painter, I paint for fun, because I like it. I have no intentions to sell anything. I paint and share, that is all.

Another great demo. I really like the neptunes! A bit soft but one gets used to that. And interesting use of Ivory black. It is almost dark, dark brown. @@EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art I love the Dutch accshentt! Reminds me of a friend many years ago. I have to admit though, I often watch these last thing at night, and sometimes dont make it to the end :) And I like it when sometimes you miss a word at the end of your Ultimately, all these things give you a human character! In my painting, I've lately made a more deliberate attempt to understand what makes a great watercolor, and I think your paintings have a lot of what I'm looking for. Loose, but not slapdash. Leave a lot for the viewer to fill in. It's about creating atmosphere, not always painting boats and other typical subjects.

Thank you very much. You can buy a Antwerp blue, that is much friendlier, but still a cool blue. Or buy study pigments. they are often less pigmented. I always preach that we all should start with study paint and cellulose paper. When you can control the watercolour with this, the pro material is a piece of cake.

You and MaimerBlu changed my painting life. I’ve tossed out or given away most of my paint tubes and replaced them with MaimerBlu. Why keep a hundred tubes of paints when you can easily mix any color you want with this brand. The colors are richer and translucent. I love the paint and I love your style of painting. Do you offer workshops? I would love to watch and hear your thought process as you paint. #1 biggest fan from anew Orleans 😊

Excellent! And interesting about phtalo-blue being transparent and cobalt and french ultramarine semi-transparent. Did I understand it correctly that this is because phtalo-blue is synthetic and the -other two organic/mineral-based? Keep yourself to yourself if you want. No, phthalo blue is just transparent. you have also Indanthrene blue, an dark blue that is transparent. But also Maimeri have a transparent cobalt blue nr 372. But it is a very light cobalt blue, almost cerulean like. The Venetian red from Maimeri is transparent, and it looks like Light red or English red. and those two last ones are opaque. But it does not matter if it is opaque or not, with enough water it will be good to make watercolours. Only when you are glazing, like several layers, it is maybe better not to glaze with pigments containing white.
