What brand of pigments are you using? Most ultramarine and earth pigments will granulate. But you need a bit of grain in the paper, and enough water to make the pigments float.

Thank you very much. You can buy a Antwerp blue, that is much friendlier, but still a cool blue. Or buy study pigments. they are often less pigmented. I always preach that we all should start with study paint and cellulose paper. When you can control the watercolour with this, the pro material is a piece of cake.

You and MaimerBlu changed my painting life. I’ve tossed out or given away most of my paint tubes and replaced them with MaimerBlu. Why keep a hundred tubes of paints when you can easily mix any color you want with this brand. The colors are richer and translucent. I love the paint and I love your style of painting. Do you offer workshops? I would love to watch and hear your thought process as you paint. #1 biggest fan from anew Orleans 😊

Excellent! And interesting about phtalo-blue being transparent and cobalt and french ultramarine semi-transparent. Did I understand it correctly that this is because phtalo-blue is synthetic and the -other two organic/mineral-based? Keep yourself to yourself if you want. @EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art

No, phthalo blue is just transparent. you have also Indanthrene blue, an dark blue that is transparent. But also Maimeri have a transparent cobalt blue nr 372. But it is a very light cobalt blue, almost cerulean like. The Venetian red from Maimeri is transparent, and it looks like Light red or English red. and those two last ones are opaque. But it does not matter if it is opaque or not, with enough water it will be good to make watercolours. Only when you are glazing, like several layers, it is maybe better not to glaze with pigments containing white.

It depends on the palette I use, on one is phtalo green, the other Cobalt green, and I have palettes with Viridian. But all cool. When I mix I search for the right colour. On the Pike pallette I have a big mixing space, and flat, so I can see how the colour will be on the paper.

I ended up with three videos, and two books. I never copied a painting, but only used his techniques. And in fact you learn so little from copying a painting. Maybe you;re own work will be not as good as the copied one, but it is worth 4 times so much!

Thanks, I have now Sapgreen, and sometimes phtalo green on my palette. I could make sapgreen also from phtalo blue and a yellow. Because Sap green is a mix in a tube. Hookers green is also a mix from Raw Sienna and phtalo green. Viridian is a genuine green and really a pigment. Phtalo green is a synthetic Viridian. Another option is the use of Cobalt green as a cool green.

@@MelkamMengued For sure, since 1987 it is one of the pigments I have. Only it dries stone hard on my palette usually. Because Viridian is a Mineral, and together with Arabic Gum it becomes Amber. That is why they invented Phthalo Green. I bought a whole pan from that Phthalo green in 1987, and it is so heavy pigmented, it is still there. On a other palette than this one. I have a few more.
