You said that the U.S. beat a good Jamaican side; but let's remember that this was a depleted Jamaican side, with some injuries & 2 of their players forgot their passports & missed the match, which shows how mentally focused they were on that match... I was listening to a Jamaican analyst (J.D.) on another podcast & he was predicting, before the 1st match, that Jamaica would lose badly because he said that they were in very poor form. He also spoke about how inconsistent their team has been, playing okay in one match & then playing terribly in the next. If you watched the 2nd match, the U.S. were passing the ball, like there were no Jamaicans on the pitch, because the Jamaican team was not marking their opponents at all. Even though Jamaica played poorly & never pressured the U.S., they still managed to score 2 goals, which makes you wonder about the U.S. defence. They better not overlook a pretty good Panama team, that is a lot more cohesive than Jamaica & they have a much better defence too. Without question, Canada has had the better starting 11 & the superior overall team too in 2024. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on Pochettino & the U.S. team, we will see how they perform under that scrutiny in March.

tough talk for a team that has not won a trophy since 2000
@jrcanuck1Сағат бұрын
@dixoncider8372 , show me proof that Canada has not been the better team in 2024. Besides, I will take being #1 in the 2021/2022 World cup Qualifiers, in which teams had to play home & away matches & also making the semifinals in the Copa Americas any day, over winning a CONCACAF Nations League trophy, as they are much greater achievements. The Gold cup hardly counts for much anymore, as almost all of the better players in CONCACAF' don't even participate in it.

Agree. Feel 🇨🇦 has more impactful, X factor type of player there that can win u a game there (in their 11) unlike than the 🇺🇸 , who just maybe one player that can win una game. Great players all around too, but 🇺🇸 is deeper for sure. That’s my opinion at least.

Stay with soccer gentlemen. You obviously know it well. Regarding politics-happy to give you some insights as to why pulisic did the Trump dance and happy to tell you what MAGA stands for vs what the media portrays it to be.
@jrcanuck12 күн бұрын
@,tonymacdonnell424, Most Canadians know more about American politics than probably the majority of Americans do. We also know all too well that Trump is a convicted rapist & felon & leader of a coup & that he is the sketchy president who admires dictators & who told people to inject themselves with Clorox to cure Covid & the guy who lies constantly. We don't need the media to convince us of that, as we all saw it live on TV unfold right in front of us. We also don't need MAGA conspiracy theories here in Canada, as we stick to the real facts. So I suggest that it is you who should really "stay with soccer" because people here are too well informed to be bamboozled by a member of the MAGA cult. Oh yeah, we all already know what MAGA stands for & you are going to find out 1st hand in 4 years time, that the U.S. will be in such an autocratic mess, that Trump will almost surely ensure that America will never be great again in your life time.

US will get better .. but Canada can beat them
@greglawrence92304 күн бұрын
The bad news is Canada got the most difficult seeding possible for the Nations League Semifinals. The good news is that Canada will now have to beat both Mexico and the US to claim the title. If we got the title by facing Panama and Honduras Canada would not get the credit they deserve. But Canada cannot go 90 minutes with Mexico again without scoring. If we go to pens, Mexico will win. Gotta get it done in regulation. Buckle up. This is gonna be a very, very tough task.
@jrcanuck12 күн бұрын
I agree with everything that you said, except that Canada will lose to Mexico, if we go to penalties. Canada beat Venezuela in penalties in the Copa Americas & we have 2 very good goalkeepers & we have the players to do a good taking penalty shots. I know that Guillermo Ochoa has been an excellent goalkeeper for Mexico; but he will almost be 40 in March. Time catches up with everyone sooner or later.

It amazes me that we have gotten so used to playing in the U.S. in all tournaments, that nobody, not even Canadians, acknowledge or think about the fact that the U.S. have a huge advantage before the matches in March are even close to being played & NO, it is not an excuse, as it is a ridiculous reality. The biggest problem with the Nations League & Gold cups, is that it all favours the Americans, big time! Over 95% of their matches are played at home. Canada probably plays less than 15% at home. The Copa Americas matches were all played in the U.S. this year & the playoffs in the 2026 World cup will be played there too. When ranking teams, nobody talks about that huge advantage. The Americans do not play well on the road. Just look at the 2022 CONCACAF Qualifiers for the World cup, where teams played each of the other teams home & away. Canada finished #1. The U.S. tied Costa Rica for 4th place in points. Look at what just happened in these quarter finals in the Nations League cup in the past week. The 4 favourite teams (Canada, USA, Mexico & Panama) all played much better at home than they did on the road; but still, the semifinals & finals will be played in the USA. Canada has the best record in the semifinals & overall this year, so the semifinals should be played in Canada (Vancouver for better weather)... FIFA & CONCACAF are only driven by greed & Money. Then, if it has to remain fixed in the U.S.' favour, at the very least, there should really be some kind of a handicap for rankings, for teams playing on the road in all CONCACAF tournaments, because rankings matter, as FIFA rankings help determine how difficult a group those countries will finally end up in, for the 2026 World cup. Canada ended up in the 'Group of Death' in the 2022 World cup, partially because of their poor ranking, despite having finished #1 in the Qualifiers... Regarding the small crowd, one of the major reasons for that is a lack of exposure on TV. I personally know several people who would have watched these matches, had they been on Cable TV. OneSoccer does a good job; but it doesn't come close to reaching as many people as Cable would. If one of the major sports networks carried the matches, they would build it up & talk about Suriname's tiesbto the Netherlands & what victory would mean for Canada etc... It was good to hear that 'Canada Soccer' s new dynamic CEO, Kevin Blue, has said that would like to see that kind if exposure too. *Finally, I will take Canadian Smarties over U.S. M&Ms any day... 😁
@greglawrence92304 күн бұрын
Yeah, but it's worse than all that. Canada playing Mexico in California will be like a home game for Mexico, so Canada has top seed in the tourney and Mexico sits dead last, and yet Mexico get the advantage as though they were top seed. We have to overcome that variable before we even get a chance to face the US, who, while also seeded lower, will also get the massive advantage granted to them. But hey, it'll make it all the more sweet if they can pull it off.

Our best set piece corner kick expert over the yesrs, by far, has been Junior Hoilett. I would like to see him start the next match & give him another shot at taking those corners. I too thought that Ahmed looked rusty & he did not have a very good match. I wonder if Tajon Buchanan is in good enough shape to start in this next match. I'm sorry; but I disagree with your comments about Shaffelburg, as he was one of the few high energy impactful players, who was running their backs ragged. He got by them multiple times & served the ball to the front of the goal, or else it resulted in Canada getting a corner kick. Alistair Johnston & Bombito were both excellent!

Becuz we see Canada as the top of Concacaf and a World Cup nation. Ofcourse we wanted to win or draw or score. But Reality is Canada is far better. Why are Canadians not satisfied with the win. We lost and we are not sad. Big Up Natio🇸🇷⭐❤

JustChillin740, you are right & almost all matches played south of the U.S., are very difficult, due to extreme heat & humidity; poor pitches; CONCACAF terrible Reffing etc... Canada, who had one of the best defensive records in the Copa Americas, as Alex mentioned, did not allow 1 shot on goal in that match, which was excellent. Canadian fans should also realize that the team was down by 6 potential starters. Alphonso Davies; Derek Cornelius; Liam Millar (sometimes a starter); Tajon Buchanan (because he just returned from an injury & is out of form); Cyle Larin (who apparently had a small nagging injury & that is why he didn't start); Matt Crepeau had started all matches since Jesse Marsch arrived, except for 1, before this match, (he 😮didn't start because he was also out of form). I know that you get players from the Netherlands; but still, your country punches way above your weight, with a population which is estimated to be between 634,000 and 647,000 people versus Canada, which has over 40 Million people. Pretty impressive!!!

Should have called him up in october and I was shocked we didn't. If he doesn't fit the system, cut him after training camp in Montrea'. if not, play him over Poku. It was that simple, and we've now lost a guy who not only fit our needs extremely well, but actively wanted to play for us. Kulenovic was a day one TFC fan. He was in the south end for years with red patch boys, he repped Canada and Toronto whenever possible... and we didn't even look at him.

OMG, Please stop questioning whether Larin will start or not. For the hundredth time, Marsch loves how he plays & he is probably going to start from now until 2026 (unless Marsch just chooses to experiment in one match) because his overall game & his teaming up with David, is exactly what Marsch wants. Period, end of discussion!!! Regarding the U.S. vs Jamaica series, I agree that there is a potential upset there. Like in Suriname, it has rained all week there & the pitch will probably be awful, in rather hot & humid weather & the U.S. rarely play on the road & they have struggled away from home. They have not played well at all this year & they are missing by far their best Midfielder in Tyler Adams & their best #9, Folarin Balogun, both out with injuries. Now, unfortunately for Jamaica, some of their better players are out of form; but they are a talented team with a new coach. If they upset the U.S. in Jamaica, anything will be possible in the 2nd match in the U.S. There is a great deal of pressure right now on coach Pochettino & the U.S. team to win.

I do remember that the media & podcasters were concerned heading into the match versus Suriname for the Qualifiers in June of 2021, because at that time, Canada hadn't yet blossomed into a winning team & Suriname had players from the Netherlands playing for them, as they will have again this time; but we ended up beating them 4-0, playing in the U.S.; however, Suriname actually outplayed Canada for oarts of the 1st half of that match, until Jonathan David broke out & scored a hat trick. .

Carmelina accepted the Racing job THE DAY AFTER,...THE VERY DAY AFTER the pathetic losers in charge at Canada Soccer at the time, in a panic, resigned Bev. I think Carmelina was expecting the National Team Coaching job. The timing suggests that.
@markhoward7673Ай бұрын
Wow. What a lazy post. Quite ignorant in fact. There are more than enough players on this team that haven't been featured or tested the correct way by Bev. NOW is the time to afford these players the chance to prove themselves the way they shine at club. Same mistakes again and again. Player bias on Bev's part. Mimi Alidou was a TOP SCORER in Champions League, and NEVER had the chance to prove herself at the 9, for the likes of Huitema who has been more absent of quality than others. Hopefully, the coaching staff have the ears of the players, or the basic coaching know how to maximize the players they have PROPERLY. I used to support Bev, but she has made terrible choices since Tokyo. Ignoring Carle and treating her like garbage. Ignoring in form Viens who is bullying the best of Europe for players who can't score. The World Cup was a total embarrassment, while Bev HAD THE PROPER PLAYERS to succeed, but acted the coward. Yes, we need to develop the youth SO much better and faster than we are, but you can't throw away untapped gold. It's right there in front of you. Stop being so wasteful, and lazy.

You spoke about current players eventually participating more in soccer media; but what Canadian soccer badly needs is for all of the games, including Friendlies, being televised on TSN or Sportsnet. I know a lot of people who would watch these games if they were on TV. I like OneSoccer; but to the average person, they have never heard of it & until they get interested enough, they are not going to pay an extra monthly fee to watch soccer, when they can watch the other major sports for free.
