I have fixated on Gordon since the late 70s...99% of what I play is Gordon. I was using part of the strumming patterns Gordon used on Canadian Railiroad Trilogy during a song at worship practice. There were 3 other guitar players there, both elec and acoustic. (One of them was a personal friend of Terry Kath, and a real pro.) I was playing my Martin D28/12 string. When the song was over, the guy standing next to me, said "Turn this guy up!" (and I maybe only came within a mile of playing like Gordon.

Some of my very favourites are here. The Summer Side of Life album was huge (to me) during my youth. I once asked some friends to pick their top 10 Gordo songs. (try it!) My list stay much the same over the years.

I'm not a guitar player, but watching Red Shea, I can't get over how easy he makes it look. Seems like he's just sittin' there relaxing but there's all that sound come out. Amazing!

My God I can’t endure another moment of this. God bless you Gordon, God bless me for not ever attending a show. I thought I liked this guy a lot more for the last 25 years up until about 45 minutes ago. I thought I heard a high drink Tom Petty trying to speak French. I’m actually upset about it. I loved Gordon’s music until I endured this set. Jesus.. it’s like one long song. Same chords same melody same unbearable thoughts and feelings I get as I’m in the dentists chair. ✌🏼❤️🤘🏼 Gordon. With the exception of this set, you were an entertaining man.. probably a huge Tom T Hall fan

Such a magnificent artist and songwriter. My all time favorite of his is "Seven Island Suite", but I also dearly loved "Summer Side Of Life".... I was a month away from going into the military when I first heard that in May of 1971.

A life well lived What a proud Canadian legacy. To have purpose in his life that is reflected in his music that is within him. So powerful. Life is short, it should be sweet from the attic to the basement. To have people at your funeral that will miss you and shed a tear with a lump in their throat and thank you for all that is you. For all that he has left behind...That is a life well lived.

On Affair on 8th Avenue I knew I was in for it, when I saw him prepping to do some fingerpickin of which he was a master at...Thank you Gordon for all of your Masterpieces. When you wrote If you could read my mind in 1968 I was serving a 3 year stint after enlisting into the U.S. ARMY. Needless to say that song blew me away. I can see why the late John Prine said you was his songwriting Hero, that goes a long way with me especially coming from a man with the superior talents of John ...I agree Gordon was a super Hero and Master of his craft....R.I.P....LAY THYSELF DOWN NEATH THE STRENGTH OF YOUR MUSIC !!!

I met Lightfoot in Honolulu in the 1970s after he gave a concert at the Blaisdell Center there. Following the concert he walked around Waikiki and discovered a small neighborhood of single story cabins that was called The Shady Lane, which I was the manager of for 1st Hawaiian Bank's Trust Divisiion. He was pretty drunk at the time but we talked on one of the neighborhood stoops and that's how I met him. Rob
