I love this song so much! Not sure why, maybe it’s because I’m almost 70, but every time it gets the the last verse, I get choked up. Or, it could be because I raised three little boys and now they are all grown (and two of them have their own children). Where has the time gone?

I went to one concert and sat next to a little girl and her mother and grandmother. When PUFF started, it took about three or four cords on the guitar and the girl was so excited! During intermission I asked her how she knew the words, and she said summer camp! I looked at the mother and she said makes you feel old, doesn't it?

I love this song for its pure simplicity and ever one can relate to it. Of note that the audience is 95% adults -:) Even the younger bot mouth's the words. In another video, a little gilrl ( I would say about 4 or 5 years old) nearly leaps out of her seat when the opening chords are played, and you can see her merrily sing along. What a thoroughly nasty piece of work, not to mention poisoned mind that Mary Whitehouse had who made a big thing about what she thought were illegal substances. Even if t were, it would go over the head of you average even 10 year old ! Of note that in this 25th Anniversary concert nearly 90% are adults of the era 1950 & 60s. who as parents or children at that time remember it. So sad that children these days are indeed deprived of their innocence and childhood. so early.

I love the part-spoken intro about the way the song's meaning was corrupted by inference (a woman called Mary Whitehouse, who read more sinister things in to the song. because used the words "paper", "string and sealing-wax" which she believed had overtones. of substance abuse However watch the later earlier recording which is played in a (clearly matinee) performance with a lot of small children and their adult escorts; and you can see the innocence abound, particularly the little girl who nearly launchers herself out of her seat when she hears the intro-chords. Also the parents singing along with the children without any need for prompting. Lovely to see innocence by both child and adult; and shows what a poisoned mind that Whitehouse must have had !
