The original sculpture is done in an oil based modeling clay, then I make a silicone mold. From the mold I produce a resin casting. The mold cold be used to make a bronze if desired, and could produce 10 to 30 castings.

What are the measurements of the sculpture?, I would like to recreate one, greetings from Argentina
@findingescapevelocity896814 күн бұрын
Hello, I get my measurements from the internet. When a size is given for an animal it is as if it were laying flat on a table. I first drew out the bird that way to get the correct proportions. When the bird is in pose the overall size is smaller than what was originally stated in a field guide.

Beautiful Raven sculpture! I raised a raven when I was a teenager, so I'm a big fan of those crazy intelligent birds. I grew up in Utah, but I haven't visited Canyonlands. I learned a bit of sculpture and mold making when I worked for a place that made art installations for Las Vegas casinos, and I loved it so much. I did some 2D carving, and a little mold work, but was usually stuck in the sanding department, so I didn't get as much learning in as I wanted too about all the many art processes they did there. I also found it more difficult to find the time required for my art when my children were small. Now that I'm 50 though, I've taken up my art more. Wood carving mostly. Im loving the sculptural aspects of it. I was so enjoying watching your process with this sculpt ! So much about the mold making and clay sculpting that I'd still love to learn. Your artwork is so beautifully done! Thank you for sharing. Subscribed!

Try it without the vertical shafts and measure the difference in flow.
@findingescapevelocity8968 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how I would do that. The vertical shafts are necessary to keep the fluid in rotation with the cylinder. I would like to add many more, to completely cover the inside surface of the cylinder.
@joereedsmith1531 Жыл бұрын
@@findingescapevelocity8968 Use a screw pattern not shafts.
@findingescapevelocity8968 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a design I have in mind. I also considered pitching outward the vertical channels, creating a slightly cone shaped cylinder. Using a spiral, screw, or helix shape would certainly more more water. It would be at the expense of energy. A spiral shape would essentially be a ramp being pushed through the water. I wanted to operate purely on centrifugal forces. Even what we currently call a centrifugal pump I think is at least partially paddles pushing water if not mostly. Notice how this pump keeps spinning after I quit putting energy into it. I’m trying to capitalize on momentum, having it act as a flywheel.

Thankyou, I didn't get a lot of film on that part. I think I decided to start recording my process during the paint on this piece. When I do another I will certainly get all those processes documented. ill briefly go over it now. first I oriented the top to the bottom. Then I used wedges, some going downward some going upward depending where I needed to bend the shells to make them align. In the space between those wedges I put some glass. when that glass had hardened, I removed the wedges and glassed the space where the wedges were.

They are amazing birds. I have never seen one in life. I lived in Missouri for about 12 years. I was on the edge of a bluff about twenty stories above a lake. Bald eagles would regularly hover on the wind as it crested the bluff. they would be at my eyelevel about 30 to 50 feet away. also they sit in my trees just outside my windows. so interesting was the subtle sounds they make, so many more than the screech you hear in the movies. Bald and golden eagles are very similar.
@kevinmcnamara6723 Жыл бұрын
wow you are so lucky over here I worked at a centre and we used to fly a bald eagle they are quite a chunky bird but with all fish eagle they tend to face bite and it really hurts but what you do is fantastic i looked at your web page and the whale shark must have taken you a while to do but again looked fantastic
