the way you describe the difficulty in rendering it sounds like making a real life model wouldn't have been any harder. My best friend got me the eagle as a bday present many moons ago. I don't have it any more, but it did get a lot of play - which is what it was meant for. sold off what i had left prob 20+ years ago.

Very nice job! I've always thought it was a tragedy that they never let Shatner go back and "re-master" Star Trek V as Robert Wise was able to with "The Motion Picture." The effects work on V was the worst of any of the original cast films, and the "jet boots in the turbo-lift shaft" scene would be less silly if the deck numbers were even *close* to accurate. They might have even been able to fix the final confrontation with the false god, bringing in the cherubim and seraphim turning into demons that was originally conceived. Star Trek V would still be the least of the original cast films, but at least it would LOOK so much better!

I always felt that when you see the Enterprise backdropped by the moon, while is a beautiful shot, she should have been either in the space dock that orbits the Earth or in a dock that was used in Star Trek TMP or TWoK.

Thank you for watching and participating, Walter! "Beyond the Barrier" did introduce new spacedock interior shots, but this sequence was needed for continuity with one of the live film shots, which shows the moon backdrop as a reflection in the shuttlecraft window. "Beyond the Barrier" was a complete movie edit, and so continuity regularly informed both the narrative editing and the composition of new visuals.

Knowing what Shatner originally wanted to do with this film and seeing how well your effects for it are, only goes to show how badly cheated we were back in '89 when the budget was cut... after production was already well along!

ST5 needs a director's cut (with the added scenes that were originally cut out), plus with improved f/x. Still wouldn't make it a great film but it would improve it.

Nice!! But what about the people living on the moon? Riker said there were cities and 30 million people living on the moon in his time. You'd have to figure in Kirks time we'd still be able to see something on the surface.
@alharron2145
@alharron2145 9 күн бұрын
There's still almost 100 years between Kirk & Riker. We know there were colonies since just after First Contact, but that doesn't necessarily mean there was a steady population growth. Perhaps lunar habitation was very limited even in Kirk's era, until technological advancements in the intervening years (industrial reolicators, most likely) led to a population boom.

Thanks for watching and participating, Simon! The landing pads are retracted here because this Eagle departed from earth. Once the ship arrives at Moonbase Alpha, the feet will be extended indefinitely. They'll be no reason to retract the landing pads again when in operation at the lunar facilities.

Nice work. I remember when this ship came out back on Sci-fi Art (I think) when I was Anarion. If you ever what to do anything with the Churchill, let me know. I remodeled it in Inventor so I could make 3D prints. It's not textured, but I have the original maps made in Xara so they can be scaled up much higher than the ones I released back in the day. We could convert it to something Lightwave can import I'm sure. Oh and it's cool you are using the Buchenmiester's bridges. Sean R.

The Eagles are still one of my favorite Sci-Fi spacecraft. Because they seem like something we should have by now. Of course when I was a kid we were told we would have a moon base by the year 2000. So they didn't seem that far fetched.

It'd make sense for the pilots to stand the same way they did on the Apollo LM. This would put their heads higher in the cabin and give them a better view forward and up through the massive windows. View down is more critical, but that could be achieved by windows on the bottom, not on the same surfaces as the top ones, but on the black inset. IF you want to add detail that wasn't in the show, you can add the fixation of the windows similar to what was done with the space shuttle, as well as maintenance screws for the service panels around the capsule and the landing and attitude control pods. The thing I dislike from the original model, however, is the rear high-isp vacuum bells - they have those five thingies that make no sense - in a vacuum, the bell mouth is much larger than the throat to allow for gas expansion. In a redone series, the fixe sub-mouths would make very little sense.
@deLimitedProductions
@deLimitedProductions Ай бұрын
The "standing" design does make a lot of sense, provided the Eagle is flown exclusively in low gravity. dP will eventually produce a fictionalized account of a terrestrial launch, so we definitely like the pilots seated securely. The engine diffusers were likely added to solve a problem: to help control the practical firing effect sometimes used on the show. My hunch is that early testing showed the pressurized freon gas produced jets that were too concentrated and violent for that scale of model. At the same time, the diffusers introduced more visual detail, which nearly always benefits a sci-fi model on the screen. Thank you for watching and participating!

Everything about this show was iconic, the Eagles the stun guns, the communicators, the costumes (flares not withstanding) even the 2 theme tunes were amazing. I'm astounded it looked this good 4 years before Star Wars existed and yet still only got 2 series.

That was due to the very ugly divorce between the Andersons. Also, bringing in an American producer for the second season, who tried to Americanize it, was bad enough, but it was Fred Freiberger, who was know for ending science-fiction shows in one season. He was known as the "Showkiller." He also produced the final season of Star Trek and the final season of the Six Million Dollar Man.
