Stopped watching this show after they kicked Lip out of MIT. The show basically said no matter what they do they end up in the same shitty situation. Also it is the shame that actress playing Mandy left the show.

Of the many complaints on how the show ended, this was my biggest. The writers basically stopped acknowledging how intelligent Lip was. His story arc was abandoned and he was just another Gallagher. It was sad, because he had the most complex and interesting story in the beginning.

I feel the same. In the last episode we see him fixing a coding problem on a computer, and I hoped that the show would end with him saying he wants to go back to school, or something - but no, nothing.

Unfortunately it's reality. There are truly brilliant people working on factory floors, serving you burgers, etc. They were never given a real chance. They were raised in horrible situations, went to underfunded and overcrowded schools. They're worn out. They were never taught that dreaming is good and definitely never taught how to pursue them. They're making the best of their situation.

I do not think it was abandoned, every child from that household had some sort of genetic issues related to their parents which somehow messed them up. Something that Lip always had was a sweet spot for kids so failing some parts of his life as such University made him a more mature of a person and made him realise alcohol is an actual issue for him. Ofc I would have loved if there was bit more of his screen time but in the end the show was about the family overall state and bad choices in life. I think was fair, definitely if they did something like young Sheldon but about the future journey of Lip as a father fans will definetly support it as Lip and Carl had the most interesting stories out of all in my opinion.

This was a great scene right up to the point where the entitled snowflake started whining about not feeling safe with Lip on campus. The “I don’t feel safe” defense is a played out excuse used by inferior people to get their way. They do this in an attempt to hide the fact that they are too weak to persevere through adversity.

y’know every other one of Frank’s kids (minus Sammi) kind of got his intelligence for school smarts. - it skipped Fiona - Lip got it, and he did the most with it - it skipped Ian (yes ik he’s not biologically his kid, get off) - Debbie got it, when she took her GED test she passed it in the moment without studying, only got 2 wrong whereas Fiona was studying for days, and still barely got it - it skipped Carl - Liam got it and honed it better at his private school early on, but still kept at it over time this is not to stay that Fiona, Ian, and Carl are not smart, they are in their own ways, im merely speaking book-smarts

Fiona is heir to Frank's hard knocks. Lip is heir to Frank's intelligence and the pressure that comes with it. Ian is heir to Monica's essence. Debbie is heir to Frank's childlike impulsivity and stubbornness. Carl is heir to Frank's resilience. Liam is heir to Frank's redemption, starting with the fact that he's not even his son. His childhood is directly reflective of the Gallagher family hitting rock bottom and turning it around. Liam overdosing on cocaine was Fiona's rock bottom, and it set in motion a course of events that led every Gallagher child to get their shit together at their own pace.

Fiona never had the chance to develop book smarts. She was too busy raising her siblings. She talks about being 6 years old and taking care of tiny Lip and Ian. School was never allowed to be her priority. By the time she was studying for the GED, it had been so long since she was a student. All of the Gallagher kids are smart, the just don't always choose to, (or get the chance to,) develop it.

They did a great job in such a short scene w/ the music & furhman coming in w/ bodyguards & Marcia looking on concerned really showed how huge this witness became so much so it was a separate satellite trial all about this man & his life & the tapes all of which had nothing to do w/ Ron & Nicole. Mark should have been left out knowing the defense at least had his disability records where he cited dealing w/ the gangs & violence daily was affecting him mentally & his own judgement was becoming compromised. They should have listened. At least he admitted as a cop he knew he wasn't able to be objective anymore. Apparently a lot of cops used this excuse to get a transfer to a less dangerous area & were rejected as marks was. He wrote that in as a very young cop. All I can say is being a cop ur job is to constantly deal w/ terrible things d.v. calls gang related calls like ur whole job is dealing w/ the worst of society. Arresting people that are violent are committing crimes or maybe mentally unfit in life. Ur dealing w/ the worst of society. Young cops are always put in large cities where obviously larger population more chance of criminal activity than some cushy suburb or upscale neighborhoods like Brentwood where the worst calls u get are complaints about rich teens drinking throwing a party when mommy & daddy aren't home & responding to loud music complaints. Or just patrolling these nice rich areas to make sure no vagrants are walking around or loitering of teens who can't drive yet. I think furhman once he was put into better areas w/o gangs & violence & moved up from cop to detective calmed down. The defense screwed this up badly. They should have pre empted the defense about the race issue w/ him so it became a dead issue. They also knew that furhman the year before had worked hard on his own time to free a black man accused of killing a white man. Since this became the furhman trial for months wouldn't telling that true account have helped the defense & furhman as Hitler. The d.a. made a huge mistake in joining the defense in villifying furhman. They of course didn't have to like what he said. They were horrible statements made 9 years b4 for a screenplay. Did Mark say stuff that reflected his personal feelings at the time of course. But I don't believe in this case he planted evidence. A point that hit home for me & many Is when Mark found the glove at ojs house if he planted it how did he know oj wasn't in another state or country for weeks or days w/ an airtight alibi ? So planting a glove that night & oj they had no way of knowing if he had an alibi or where he was or that he was 5 min from the murder scene & came home in the time frame obviously as the limo driver saw his car after waiting at least 30 min when the car was gone & saw oj or a man perfectly matching his description running into the house then the ights went on & oj suddenly answered & said he was asleep. So furhman would have been in a lot of trouble if he found the other glove & it turned out oj had an alibi that couldn't be challenged. He had no way of knowing oh was still in the area & had the window to commit the murders & had no alibi of being w/ anyone or anywhere during the time of the murders. He also in the interrogation gave 3 different answers to what he was doing & diff answers to when he cut his finger where & why & how. Even if u take the gloves out of this their was still all that blood that was collected when oj was still in Chicago.

Im not done with the series yet. On S8 E2. From this stand point the woman in lips life have all been good and bad. Karen played him, Mandy was crazy, the professor chick used him, not sure about the girl who has a kid(she works at the diner)yet because not done. He has a certain love for all of them. But let's be honest Lip is a raging alcoholic. That's mostly Franks doing. He said he had been drinking since 11. Lip is a sad and dark character. Played by a great actor. Frank is definitely a genius but went down the wrong path. They say behind every successful man is a strong women. Guess the same can be said for the opposite here. Sad. Great show

Lip has a tendency for going after rather strange women, but its the ones he falls hard for, people like Karen and the Professor, that dont love him like how he wants them to that makes them very toxic for him. that’s Lip’s weakness, falling for the wrong woman. Mandy was crazy, yes, but all in all, she was great for Lip if he could’ve seen that. she would’ve stayed a great girlfriend for him if he hadn’t cheated on her with Karen. hopefully youre done with the series already, if not skip this part: skip it if youre not done! when Lip ends up with that diner chick with the kid, he also falls too hard to fast and that’s because he likes women that are hard to get, the ones that avoid him. Karen often got with other guys because they were never exclusive and he didnt like, he didnt say anything, but he didnt like it. the Professor, well you can see how that was a bad idea. the mom at the diner, she was in no place to start something serious and had a son to think about. then the biker chick he got with at work left him bleeding and with scratches after sex. then he finally got with Tami, and they had a kid, she was the only good balance of his past relationships. where he didnt do that much chasing and she didnt do that much avoiding. they were stuck together bc of the baby and it kind of evened things out and let them fall for each other slowly and securely. and out of all of them, i enjoyed Mandy the most, but with her gone, Tami’s the next best thing, Lip ended up with a good one. end of.
