This is exactly trhe reason I have decided to leave 8 year old videos up. With the massive explosion of new cnc users, there seems to be no end in sight to provide content that will help a brother out . I am thrilled that you found it helpfull and thank you for validating my decision to keep these types of video available.

When i run the zeroing gcode on my diy grbl cnc, the bit pushes the touch plate a few mm or a fraction of an inch on both X and Y. Z has no such issue. What could be the problem?
@CharleyThomas2016
@CharleyThomas2016 11 ай бұрын
Try Slowing your probing feed rate down. Should be no faster than 3 inches per minute when probing. Your feed rate during positioning moves between probing moves can be anything you like as long as it doesn't cause any jerking of your machine that could make your plate slide around. I generally set my jogging rate to about 50 inches per min. Also check your bit and collet nut t o be sur e they are clean and tight. If your collet nut is painted or anodized it could be blocking the signal from being sent to the controller. If you suspect this is the case then put the magnetic ground directly on the bit in a place that it will not interfere with the probing.

This spreadsheet (still available) has been replaced by the Triquetra Tool Box which has everthing the spreadsheet does and more. We are always adding new machines to the list of compatible devices. You can get the Triquetra Tool Box and / or the spreradsheet at www.triquetra-cnc.com. Both Imperial and Metric units are supported..

Outstanding from one old hobbyist to another, THANK YOU all these wippersnappers talk to fast and leave steps out. The Spreadsheet was Gold. I can read and understand that perfectly I plan build one myself. Is this App still about I may go see after this. I have converted muy old Dremel Drill Press to a Mini Mill with manual X and Y Tables but am putting in a CNC Controlled Z axis to better manage and control cutter depth. I am machining old Model Train Chassis to adapt Digital stuff to them. I can do it manual but the Z height on this Dremel Drill Press is not really controllable in a consistent way. Thanks for the help I go it now. Dennis in Virginia Any way you can change that hat. D

Quel navet mes bons !

Hi Charley I note that the last comment was 5 years ago so I don't know if this site is still active or not. I have never used UGS but it is on my to do list (if I live long enough) and am just about to use some arduino stuff in another project. After that I want to use my 1610 to play around a bit. I just wanted to thank you for a very clear and excellent presentation. I was born before WW2 so living long enough wasn't actually a joke. Thank you Woodie

Hi I am running MAch 3 and when I try to auto zero the first thing i get is a message to touch the plate to the bit, and when I do it doesn't register. Do you know why this keeps happening?
@CharleyThomas2016
@CharleyThomas2016 4 ай бұрын
I know this is a long overdiue reply. If it still isn't working then the first place to look is in Ports and Pins. Make sure you have the correct input pin assigned to thje Probe. It should be either 5, 6, 7, 8 10, or 11and have a green check showing it active. Also be as signed to Port 1 most likely depending on your setup. Also check for 5-24 vdc between the touch plate and ground.

@CharleyThomas2016
@CharleyThomas2016 4 ай бұрын
you can iincrease speed by changing the settings on your stepper drivers. Check the current settigs on the Pulse Table on the driver. The lower the setting is the higher you can get your top speed to be. After any ch ange on the pulse table is applied you will have to recalibrate the steppers again.

I can´t thank you enough for this Auto Tool G Code Generator. I´ve been looking for this kind of macro forever, since I don´t know how to write a script myself. Bought it right away and it changed my life. Cheers! Note: Since I use metric units, all I have to do is switch from millimeters to inches before running the script ( assigned to the Auto Tool Button ) on the Settings Tab and after it runs, switch back to millimeters.

The only thing that I didn't see in the video was needing to press CTRL+A to start the script once in Easel but I found that in another video so putting it here in case it helps someone else.

thank you Charley! That probe (and 2 others so no offense) has been sitting in the toolbox since I bought it months ago as I got tired of trying to get them to work correctly. As a new user to UCCNC itself that was frustrating and daunting enough on it's own so I shelved the probe project until I was more comfortable. Took me all of 5 minutes to get this setup with your video and new software toolbox version and tested thoroughly.. spot on! 53.6600mm = 2.1125 53.6100mm = 2.1106 21.9610mm = .8646

Thanks for the update Todd. The beauty of this new zeroing method is that it is a one time setup that takes about 5 minutes. After that, all it takes is a single button click to start the zeroing process. Lots of zeroing options with no complicated configuration settings to figure out.

How can I get these correction numbers with Easel?
@CharleyThomas2016
@CharleyThomas2016 3 жыл бұрын
In Easel, run a three axis zeroing sequence. When finished look at the top of the Machine inspector window. You should see two sets of numbers. One is machine coordinates and the other is work coordinates. The work coordinates should read all zero's or very close to zero. Next go to your Jog screen and position the bit where you want it to be. Then go back to the machine inspector and look at the work coordinates. The new numbers are your corrections.
@CharleyThomas2016
@CharleyThomas2016 3 жыл бұрын
BTW, after you put the corrections in the Triquetra Tool Box, be sure to generate a new zeroing script. The tool box updates the parameters but not any existing scripts.

@CharleyThomas2016
@CharleyThomas2016 3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like your stepper motors are reversed. X+ or right arrow key should move your X axis to the right. Y+ or up arrow key should move your Y axis towards the back. If this is not what is happening then do a google search for "GRBL Setting $2". There is a chart that will show the settings that will fix this for you without having to rewire your motors.

Charlie, this may go without saying for most of us, but it should be pointed out that the touch plate needs to be set up so that it is square to the machine. If not, you could be measuring at a diagonal and get an inaccurate reading. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for all your contributions.

The Triquetra Tool Box Companion for OneFinity is available at www.triquetra-cnc.com. It includes a tool to measure your touch plate and more options.
@Marc9889
@Marc9889 3 жыл бұрын
One thing worth mentioning - if you measured your touch plate in inches, and provided the toolbox values in inches, entering your custom bit size in millimeters will result in an incorrect location for x=0, y=0. In my case, I entered 1.5 (1.5mm), and the end result was that the machine tried to use x=-1.5", y=-1.5" relative to the bottom left corner of the workpiece. At first, I though it was simply doubling the touch plate measurements. Then I looked at the code in the zeroing file, and it appeared to be correct. I went back to this step (@4:22), clicked custom, and entered the value in inches for a 1.5mm bit, which is 0.060. Needless to say, it worked. All that to say, if it's giving you the options (on the buttons) in inches, and you enter a custom value, make sure it's also in inches.
