I just bought this camera in like new condition. Loving it so far. My only consern is that the batteries wear down fast and also the exp. comp. button should have a lock on it as it is too easy to move with your thumb. I solved the problem by attaching a thumb rest.

Interesting review to look at in 2024. I am wondering if those bold statements about build quality, bokeh, AF speed and sharpness are still holding up. The more time goes by, the more it seems that build quality is in fact way superior to most major brands - except Sony GM series, but hey this glass plays in a different price range. Also the bokeh is amongst the best ones - even the very best can be pointed to a lighting situation where it fails. I guess, the only negative feature of this lens is the size and weight, compared to other 50/1.4 FF AF lenses, although none of the smaller ones built for DSLRs are designed with an ultimate IQ objective. I have reviewed both Canon, Nikon, and Sony's 50/1.4 AF DSLR glasses and none of them is playing in the same IQ league. Ever since this was released the much newer MILC 50/1.4 AF glasses cought up, but mainly in terms of AF speed, IQ, size and weight, but this old glass is still worth considering.

It's December 2024 and I just purchased a D3 in nice condition and received it yesterday. I remember watching this video years ago because I wanted one then but couldn't justify spending $5K. Fast forward 17 years and I got my D3 for $300 and I'm loving it!

$294 per year for 17yrs or $25 per month. If you were a working photographer in the US and working under an LLC. You could've depreciated the D3 or D3s and supporting gear in the first tax year of purchase. As long as your business was making more than the cost of the gear. Same for any current device. If it's going to grow your business, it's most certainly worth the upfront investment. You're also able to rent out your gear in an off season or vacation period. If you're in the US cost should be considered, but it shouldn't be considered an absolute no, especially if you can use it for 20yrs. The Z9, Z8, etc should last for the next 20-40yrs easily. Even just doing school portraits or mall portraits, it's pretty easy to make more than enough to justify the purchase.

If you were to have gotten the D3s. You can use a Atmos to record 1080p 30fps. For whatever reason, the D3s even at that resolution, it really looks super clean. Like it looks 4K clean, and can be upscaled to 2K, 2.5K, or 4K without loss in quality from Gigapixel. I tried it before I sold my D3s.

9yrs ago and now it has version ii which is 6yrs ago i think, which is sharper than version 1, and for my experience as i own one from canon and version 2 from YN for different situation purposes, its almost 98% exactly the same quality picrure with the canon price x2 expensive than YN V2.🤣

I have been using Df for 10 years and I think it is a very good camera, both in terms of color and high iso performance. Kai didn't appreciate this camera at all. The Df without video taking function is not important.In fact, the video taking of digital SLR at that time simply couldn't meet your requirements.
