Great video. Question, if your hands are in the higher Thai guard, do you drop them slightly to throw punches, or throw them from your hands in the higher position? When you demonstrate the punches they seem to start with your arms in a lower starting position. Thank you for the great videos!
@ArashiDoNorthEdmonton3 ай бұрын
Thanks. The "Thai" style of hands that high favor elbows and clinch (and defence). But to throw stronger punches a "Dutch" style guard, hands by chin is more effective. Pros and Cons. Thanks for the watch

This is super dope. I'm mixing this in with skip step kicks and it feels like the combos / feints are endless. As an orthodox, I'm really liking stepping forward and off the centerline with my rear leg and then turning it into a stutter step southpaw rear leg kick. Clears a ton of distance and feels really slippery. Turning a lead leg check into a turbo step kick feels awesome too. I feel like my kick trickiness just went up by 1000%, can't wait to try some of this in sparring. Thanks!

Straight forward info, and helpful, but by the time he's teaching Blocks, he really could've benefited from having a partner to demonstrate your opponents punches etc.

Muay thai kick should be straight through, Karate roundhouse is a snapping kick Am I correct?
@ArashiDoNorthEdmonton2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right and like I covered at 4:23 it is more common for Karate and Tae Kwon Do. The Cut Kick is at 5:15. I go over the benefits of both and good to know both

In MMA they use this Kosoto Gake against the cage a lot. Never knew it was called that. Thanks. In MMA we’re cautioned about giving our opponent double underhooks because he can pick you up easily. Seems that it’d be better to clinch with a 50/50

Great video! I am seriously thinking to begin my first Muay Thai classes this year. I wanted to do something like this last year, but too many things happened that held me back from doing it. I'm in my late 30's and totally gonna be knew to Muay Thai. Found a gym walking distance, but before I sign up I want to learn the basics before joining these classes.

What do I do. I'm literally half Dutch and half Thai of ethnicity. Which style should I chose 🤣
@ArashiDoNorthEdmonton3 жыл бұрын
Bamm, best of both worlds. Most Thais are under 5'6" and around 120lbs and Dutch tend to be over 6'and over 200lbs. Which suits you best? Thais usually have smaller upper body mass which leads to a high guard and an emphasis on elbows and clinch. Dutch tend to have broad shoulders which encourages more punches. That said... you should do both and find what works best for you.

A great sport, and lots of fun, and I am REALLY pleased the two girls like it. But it is way over rated as self defense. It is a sport, a great and very energetic high energy sport, but it is long way off being self defense.
@ArashiDoNorthEdmonton3 жыл бұрын
For most gyms I could see some concern but we have a dedicated Self Defence Curriculum for standing and ground attacks including strikes. That said, the sport itself is very effective. It allows students to train at near 100% (minus strikes). That method of training allows them to be calm in uncomfortable positions and deal with people bigger and stronger than them. Not ideal for self defence but definitely more useful than most people that do nothing at all to prepare themselves
