As a younger sibling, I can confirm that Sam has accurate younger sibling energy. Starts protesting when Bobby scolds him, then gets smug when it’s Dean’s turn.

Comments sections like these, filled with people relating because they're going through a breakup or reminiscing about the person who played them this song for the first time, make me wonder how often both sides of those stories have written here. ---------- I saw an ancient comment saying the lyric is "say you want care." I'm sure I don't know them, but I can't help but wonder: is it our shared inside joke, was it a more ubiquitous joke than I realized, or did they just mishear the lyric?

It gets really awkward when you get older and realize this song is absolutely NOT about breaking up with someone. It's about making the decision to take someone you love who is terminally ill off life support because they're suffering. He's asking them to just ask him to do it ("untie the knot", ie. unplug them) and let him know that they won't care because they'll be at peace. The "one thing [he] can do nothing about" is that they're going to die, and "chasing [their] dreams is just a distraction" by now.
@jacksyoutubechannel40452 жыл бұрын
That's definitely an interesting take on it, but I'm not sure there's anything to say that's what it's really about. If there is, if I missed it (and now can't find it), I'd suggest it was adapted to have a double meaning. The lyrics, "When all that we need is just a reaction / It's too much to ask for when there's no attraction anymore," in particular don't work with a stand-alone meaning about ending life support. I do agree that it changes a bit as you get older, in a much smaller but still meaningful way, as it becomes less about a generic couple on the verge of a breakup and more about a husband and wife on the verge of divorce. The use of "untie the knot," a twist on a very meaning-laden phrase, seems to be an especially pointed arrow in that direction.

The move of the older sibling when a younger sibling want what they have is to hold it in the air so they can’t reach it in this case the younger sibling is taller than the older so he can’t really do that
