This ending makes more sense than the perfect ending.

Imagine falling in love with essentially the idea of something…or manifestation of some dudes regrets…..? In my head Titus was an idiot, so she ends her story being embraced by an imaginary buffoon and continues doing what? Never be used? Well, all she proved is that Titus is all she lived for. Ask me, that’s the saddest ending. But then again, y’all out here willing to hate Titus for stealing Luna away from them and other weebs marrying Hatsune Miku. Reality can be stranger than fiction.

While I enjoyed the good/perfect endings as much as everybody else, I feel like this is the most honest and realistic ending. Yuna started this entire journey with the hope that Tidus was somehow still “alive” (not that he ever was to begin with), and that she could see him again, only to find out that it just wasn’t going to happen. But in the end, she becomes much more emotionally resilient, and while she will always mourn him and love him, she refuses to be a slave to her past, and decides to move forward. That’s how life is. When we lose a loved one, they are gone. And they are never coming back. All we have of them are the memories that we’ll always cherish. Yes, we’d give anything to have them back with us, but that’s not how it works. That pain of loss will always be there, and you never really “get over it”, but eventually you do learn to move past it. Step by step.

I was about to comment, but then I read all the other comments: I feel like everyone else, this should've been the true ending. Furthermore, considering what they did in the novel, this is way better than what the perfect ending set up.

This defeats the whole purpose of the game you just played, we see a sphere of Tidus, Yuna spent two or so years looking for him and nope he was never really here and she suddenly just "excepts" "Oh you where here with me this whole time." They never should of even wasted time making this "Sad Ending" or the othet "Endings" and just made the "Perfect Ending" the only ending.

This is the true ending of FFX/FFX-2.

So Yuna chose to abandon the love of her life, the same Yuna who explicitly admitted that she never forgot Tidus after two years, the Yuna who embarked on a whole new journey that is ffx-2 simply because she saw a glimpse of a person who could be Tidus in an old sphere recorder, and thought that could lead her to find Tidus, even after two years of his absence? yea this ending absolutely makes no sense. And assuming Square just wanted the players to have a sad ending, did they forgot the very ending of the main game?

Hell nah Tidus deserves better

I feel like this is the ending that they were aiming for from the beginning, but they added the "Perfect" ending to satisfy the people that wanted just another happy ending. This ending gives more meaning to the story than him just magically being back.

I was never a fan of the perfect ending because it undermined his good bye in FFX and it just felt fan servicey no matter how much you wanna rationalize it, tell me that's a basic take, or how many video essays try to convince me its better than I think 20 years later.

I love this song and she sings it great, but it just feels weird that she sounds literally nothing like the Japanese voice for Yuna. :/ I was stunned the first time I heard it cause I was like WHOA that is NOT Yuna's voice!!! 😨

Problem with this ending is that it doesn't connect with the final scene of FFX and it also ruins the fact that Tidus kinda deserved something good for all his heroics.

People here keep saying this ending is better because its more realistic, but I don't agree that realistic is always better in the story world. Part of the beauty of stories is that they teach you to believe in miracles, they teach you to dream, they teach you that fighting for things that seem impossible is not always fruitless, and we need that kind of inner strength to get through life's hardships. Life is a constant slap in the face of the harshness of reality and I really don't think its necessary to reinforce that harshness with a bunch of slice-of-life storylines. We are all plenty aware of reality in all its mercilessness as it is. Accepting sad reality is not always the mindset or path of character development we need, but the strength to keep going and fighting even when it seems like all is lost. I cherish every story that can teach that special kind of resilience rather than stories that just want to reinforce that "Sorry, life stinks sometimes and there's nothing you can do about it. So deal." Especially in the case of love. Forever love is so rare and so precious and someday when life is over, how special will it be for us and the one we love when we see them again and we both know that our love meant enough to us to hold on and find each other again, even tho the wait was pure heartache? We don't always need to 'move on.' Sometimes what we REALLY need is to just HOLD ON.

The older I get the more I wish this was the canon ending. It would be one of the saddest endings in the series imo but Yuna went through this entire journey in the hope she would see Tidus again and she comes to the realisation that it just can’t happen; he’s not there anymore. She accepts it and shows how much she’s grown. We all have to make those kind of steps in our own lives and this makes it all the more relatable…life just doesn’t give those kind of do overs…Sure, it’s not the perfect ending we all want but it is definitely the most grounded and realistic. “You will always have a place in my heart. I love you” Yuna says it with a smile and it shows how far she’s come.
