That thing sounds as nasty as I would expect a little electronic to sound.

Obviously it's not as good as a comparable pipe organ, but it's the best digital I've ever heard. It would also take a very expensive pipe organ to match its flexibility, and saves tons of maintenance. Considering those benefits, I think digital organs are nothing short of miraculous for bringing a full organ sound into more worship services and giving more people an opportunity to learn to play.

Stephen, if you are ever in Southern California, we would love to have you come play in our ward. We have a 3/57 rank pipe organ! Well done

Out of curiosity, have you ever sat down and played the hymnal? That had always been my goal, but my procrastination prevents practicing....
@StephenKendall2 ай бұрын
I've done it a few times but it's been a while. I would start with the hymns that end in 1, then move on to the 2's, but usually only one or two digits in one session.

Beautiful! Thanks for posting. How do you like the Rodgers? I play an Allen 34b, piece of crap! And I’m an Allen fan, just not this model
@StephenKendall2 ай бұрын
I quite like this Rodgers unit, the flexibility and variety in the included stops is unusually high for a chapel organ. Other Rodgers vary somewhat in quality, especially older models 😅

Do you have a link to the music you used for this?

I'm afraid not, I do have plans to transcribe and post my own reharmonizations, but not ones that are adapted heavily from other arrangements.

Thank you so much for this beautiful video. I’ve watched it over and over trying to figure out your settings and how you transition from one keyboard to the next. I’ve been asked to do an organ piece in June and I really love this one. I haven’t had any training, just learning on my own, but I’m hoping I can bring the feeling into our meeting like the one I feel when I listen to you play.

My registration, as is often the case with Kasen arrangements, is primarily string celestes in the accompaniment. Verse 1 uses an 8' + 4' + 1 1/3' flute solo, and verse 2 uses an 8' clarinet solo (on great, coupled to pedal). Verse 3 I add in the celestes on the great and principles to the pedal. That registration may or may not make sense depending on your organ.

Wilberg writes some very simple arrangements that are wonderfully suitable for congregational singing. I noticed you transposed it to G major, instead A flat. Excellent playing!

Do you have any sheet music for your hymns?
@StephenKendall6 ай бұрын
I intend to transcribe and post the sheet music but so far haven't gotten around to it. Though with this being the second comment about it in a 24 hour period, maybe this is my sign to get on it.

Do you have the sheet music to this? I would love to play this in my YSA ward as a musical number!
@StephenKendall7 ай бұрын
I've been meaning to transcribe this and others of my hymn harmonizations but haven't gotten around to it yet. I've developed them by making partial notes in my own hymnal.
@bayleeroden66897 ай бұрын
@@StephenKendall ~ it is the last verse that I love the most with your feet holding the notes longer. If you have it marked in your hymn book and are willing to share, I would love because I want to learn it soo bad!
@StephenKendall6 ай бұрын
Yeah, the pedal points are really satisfying. On line 1 I hold an F2 through it, and on line 3 hold an F3 for half and F2 for the other half. Line 2 is where it gets more complicated as I completely change several of the chords in there.

Had a couple technical problems with the stream: - audio is muted for the first few minutes - second camera angle has all the camera status indicators in the feed I do plan on leaving this stream up, at least in unlisted form. I'll also be posting some individual pieces from the recital from the internal camera recordings, so get subscribed for that!

I've seen old hymnals in secondhand bookshops and quite frankly it looks impossible for any human being to play. I'd love to know how church organists manage to decipher those hymnals.....there must be a way obviously!
