Sean sounds really passionate about the issue. I think people should consider the context of his Father Leo having been blacklisted in Hollywood during all the paranoid communist accusations era too so likely he knows how opinions are suppressed but opinions of what film productions and performances are "great" will greatly vary. He did win for Milk himself though which was certainly a human interest story but Clint Eastwood didn't win best director for Mystic River and it a far better film than the LOTR but the academy had neglected Peter Jacksons first two films so gave the final one 11 awards.

Suee, it's nice to see talented people, not least writers, receiving the respect of their peers but winning an Oscar shouldn't be the be all and end all some actors make it, production companies loppying on their behalf...Does anyone reading this really believe thisectwo beautiful souls Robin Williams and Philip Seymour Hoffman got even a second's comfort knowing they were "winners" in their last, terrible days?😢

Shooting a film is a pretty intimate process. As a shy person, like many actors, he is not a natural public speaker. In short, communicating in front of a packed room with all the eyes on him makes him uncomfortable.

He is involved in politics as well - I think that he wishes he could change the world but is 'stuck' doing what for most people is a dream job

Still, he has always had very awkward public presence throughout his life prior to his activism, and this awkwardness has led to him being unable to manage his feelings and so violence. Many people devote themselves to various causes (to change the world) without their trauma being expressed this way. It seems more temperamental that is exasperated when in the public.

Weren't they trying to overcompensate for a past they can't change? Only in answer to a question he refers to the fact that important non-American films are overlooked at the Oscars and that the Acadmy Awards are "artistically" not divers enough. That’s a different thing. But you can't really be sure, what he's talking about since he rambles on as someone with a terrible hangover does. He certainly looks like he's having one.

Before though, he rambles on that it is difficult to discern what he's on about and even after that he's not exactly consise. Nevertheless, he's a great filmaker and an actor I appreciate. Worth listening to him.

It has probably outlived itself sadly. Delpy put her foot in her mouth stating in an interview she wished she was black because itd be easier than being an A-list white actor. She brought so much to these Before roles, but after all said and done, I think shes always been a hurt, PO'd person: for a time she offered her pain in a form that reached a lot of people. Shes mad about something she'll never get over. Thank you Julie Delpy for giving your best to conveying the hurt you have inside of you.

I think the first three movies work so well because jumping from 20-something to 30-something to 40-something offers three very different human realities. Going from 40 to 50 isn't that stark of a difference, I think. They would inevitably be covering similar ground to what they did in Midnight. Maybe once they're in their 60s they'll feel they have something new to tell.
