I owned an XT250 back in the early 2000s but I loved the black and white tank colour scheme with the iconic XT transfers ..

Great work, you took something that was basically rooted & turned it into a useful nice looking little commuter 👍

Holy cow, well done. I've got the same bike and I'm terrified of starting the process haha. Thanks for giving me some inspiration! How long did it take you?
@KiczzciK4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate. I'm doing the same thing right now! I reckon it will take me 14 full days of work, depending on stuff, over about 2-3 months. I don't have a workshop but a little bit of storage, a backyard, some good tools and a quite a lot of experience working on my own bikes. Best of luck to you!
@pmoss944 жыл бұрын
@@KiczzciK good luck to you! Is it going to be expensive for you? I've hit a stopping point myself to save up for some parts, but the money factor seems never ending! Other than that I've been gaining some great experience. So much to learn!

@@pmoss94 Not too much, I'll source the few missing parts from ebay and use other interchangeable things. How far are you? Remember that many external parts of the older offroaders can be used, for example DT, TT and that the old SR250 basically is the same engine with electric start. Bearings for example can be bought from SKF, INA or FAG. I make my own electric wiring spare wire. Right now I'm just sanding and sanding with a powerdrill to get the rust off. Tell me if you need tips or anything - and keep me updated on how things work out! Are you going to make a perfect restoration?

@@KiczzciK Hey A! I'm also restoring a xt250 at the moment but first trying to get the engine going right. My one hasnt had the pin mod done to it back in the day so the cam shaft could be bad. I've just serviced the valve clearances and had a look at the cam chain tensioner and she still makes a ticking noise when on. I'm planning on replacing the cam shaft and cam chain soon, but the only cam shaft I seem to fine costs 500 bucks!!! i paid 800 for the bike and would like to keep cost to a minimum. Is the SR250 cam shaft the same as the xt250? Thanks heaps!!!

@@albertozimmermann First of all good luck with the project! Sounds fun! I would think the SR250 and the XT250 use the same engine, only difference kick/electric starter (link at bottom). Since they share the same engine numbers (3y1) it must fit, right? Check your engine number. Besides that I have found two different places that sell a chamshaft where both bikes are listed (link at bottom). I would conclude that both engines use the same parts - even the tt250 with a 3y1 engine, maybe? www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xt250-dual-purpose-1981-b-usa_model8835/camshaft-3y1_9999901444/ www.kedo.de/products/10091.html www.bikebound.com/2020/05/18/yamaha-sr250/

Nice work..I love the tank scheme. I use a cordless drill n a wire wheel for those small rusty parts. Use a vise or leather gloves when holding the part my wire wheel caught my cloth glove n ate my hand..lesson learned.

Fantastic restoration! With minimum means and commendable determination. Not trashing but using back these rusted parts into place is so not in fashion nowadays, when a click from the net brings you new parts...
