Over the years I've been to a number of "gatherings" but for an overall FMA Focused non-camp-based event... this had to be one of the best I've ever attended. Kudos to all the organizers, vendors, teachers, and all who came out!

We call this drill Corto Kurbada 1. I learned it in the early 2000's. It's usually practiced as a striking drill before learning controlled sparring. This teacher really puts as emphasis on the checking hand of the attacker. Very cool interpretation.

I’m not sure if I understand your argument. Not stupid at all. Sometimes your stick is compromised by the other person holding your stick or it’s trapped. It forces you to block with your hand or arm or parry. It’s also helps with control and breaking the basic patterns and keeps you thinking. It’s continuous unorthodox sneaky added countering during agak, which can make you think faster and work on precision.
