Here's the real reason for possibly why... his bassist. When they shot the music video for that very song, his bassist, just in grade 2, served as "drummer" in the video while Henley was doing his thing.

It's Chris's bassist, Josh Paul, who was the child in the video with Don Henley. Chris mentioned it at the beginning of the video also.
