Does anyone know why is their no video of 2024 Live Cam. I was when the eggs where on nest then babies but couldn't see the rest of the journey. What happened to the family. Was it successful? I miss the best part I feel so sad 😔💜🐥

Don't worry! They were successful! When the live NestCam ends, we take some time to create a recap video of all the best moments. We'll post the recap video soon! :)

Barn swallows are fabulous predator alarms for my martins! My bluebird box is 6 feet high and about 10 feet from the Martin house- no competition aside from when the blue birds want to perch on top of the Martin house to browse for bugs on the ground.

@Icecrys7 ай бұрын
Just beautiful, thank you for showing us the banding process. I was wondering how you were going to get to the gourds and was surprised that you just turn a crank to lower the structure. Wish I could have a purple martin setup but it is a bit pricey for me.

As of May 8, 2024… I have approximately 150 purple Martins hanging around my Gourds and houses. I’m offering 187 holes and the colony keeps enlarging every year I feel very fortunate and lucky to have watched it grow from just a few birds 10 years ago

Awesome video! Great summertime life cycle, from PM nesting to fledging, and even some predator protection - way cool. Love the PM facts running on the side. What cameras do you use? I can see what my next PM project is going to be ... LOL 😎

😟🥺 oh my! I had to stop the video, is that another bird coming into the nest to harm the babies?! And was that a predatory bird on top at one point before that?! 😭 I can't finish this. But thank you for the beginning peaceful parts. 😔
@PurpleMartinConservation9 ай бұрын
Yes, sometimes subadult males will try to take over an existing nest - but the female was feisty and fought off many troublemakers! And yes, there was footage in this video of a hawk colliding with the gourd rack! It appears the hawk was going after one of our Purple Martin decoys (which is exactly why we put them out there!) - so the real martins were able to get away. It can be an emotional rollercoaster for sure, but seeing the babies fledge at the end of the season is always rewarding!

I sure wish I could help but over 40 years ago the starlings took over the nest box's then 10 years ago it fell down I havnt seen a Martin rounds these parts or a cedar waxing for 25 + yes. Very sad environment round these parts

We hear you! Invasive species like European Starlings are a common problem people deal with when trying to host Purple Martins. We have a lot of resources on our website if you're ever interested in learning more about what you can do to help protect the martins in your area (even if they're few and far between) www.purplemartin.org/purple-martins/competitors/64/non-native/

@@PurpleMartinConservation Thanks. I’ll keep researching. My problem is that my Marin house is 130 ft away and across a road. Prob too far for my home WiFi to reach. I might try a WiFi extender.
@mdees88Ай бұрын
@@RexAndrew1 I run a wifi extender with a couple reolink argus 3 pros and a trackmix camera at it has worked great. The cameras are 400ft across a pond (with clear line of sight to the booster) and they have a very strong signal. I use a wavlink ax3000 extender (supposed to have a 1000ft range) and I have been very happy with it.

I am 66 yes old and when I was 5 I remember these birds in my nieghbors yard I a nest box about 20 high I think it held 24 holes they were so cool to watch and listen to but now years later they left and the starlings came and invaded the colony. I would love to reestablish this wonderful bird in my backyard

You gotta let nature take is way, you can’t intervene in nature if the dragon fly got stuck in the birds mouth so be it. Its mom would’ve seen it and took it out for it. Just my opinion I’m sure many more would agree to not intervene in nature then again u did make these house so they can live in them so you do what u please 🙏🏽.

Do the birds accept cash or check ?
@PurpleMartinConservation11 ай бұрын
The martins accept most flying insects, but to protect and understand these birds, conserve the habitats crucial to their survival, and help educate the public about their importance, the PMCA accepts either - or more importantly, we accept people's invaluable time and energy to host Purple Martins! After 5 years with our house up, this year we finally had visitors in NE Ohio but no residents. When you say leave the housing up so the nearby fledgelings can scope out housing options, do you mean raised or just up as in out? We have a T14 and have it lowered now for maintenance and guard installation. Love these live Q&As!
