I think the film was stereotyping Indian culture. It shows India as a poor country, it has bad Indian accents, hard-to-pronounce names, nosy Indians, and Indians are just exposing Americans to their culture with dances and rituals. I don't really care about the film that much.

She is not wrong yet is also wrong. Americans are so stubborn that you have to put aside factual information and what seems proper to be able to understand the point of view of a nation of people who disagree and fight about everything. The less unknowns and the more familiarity between customer and seller, the easier the selling is. Regardless of if it is right or proper, Americans feel much more comfortable talking to someone they think is like themselves. It creates a layer of false-understanding that allows for communicative mistakes like mispronouncing a last name. If an American says their name is Daniel and the person they are talking to is from India and they know it, if the Indian pronounces the name wrong there is more frustration than if it was thought to be another American who "probably just misheard you" compared to mispronunciation due to cultural and linguistic differences.
