12:36 The original was not a simple framework. You are wrong. It was different but not simple.

I’ve been thinking of this beautiful setting of the “O Oriens” Antiphon for most of the day, since this was the O Antiphon for Vespers this evening. It’s my favourite of the Antiphons, occurring at Vespers after the winter solstice. From this point on the daylight grows each day, and is thus symbolic of the coming of Christ, and in the words of St John the Baptist “He must grow greater, I must grow less.”

Mmmm... powerful, can hear quality of each part yet remarkably blended voices. Rendered by only six choristers but sounds like a buge choir. Simply beautiful ❤

Many good insights. and the upper voices are very good, esp with their straight voices. But to be true to the title, the upper voices should have been sung by boys, not women. Its a difference in tone quality more than pitch.

There’s so much more to the newest version besides the things mentioned. There’s a ton of harmonic changes that makes a huge difference. And turns the piece from good into a fantastic masterpiece of writing.

With that title "how Allegri's Miserere should sound", at the very least one should mentioned that it would have been sung by boys. And that sounds very different...

Please explain why they are singing with their fingers ontheir neck? I'm guessing they are trying to control the pulse of both the music and the beat of their hearts so thsy are keeping the same time with each other?

I must say to agnostics everywhere, if there is no God where does this music come from? And if it comes from humanity, where would humanity get the inspiration to sing such wonderous pieces to God? Faith maybe? Even if it has nothing to do with spiritualism, its what we recognise as 'Heavenly' and that's proof enough for me - when i'm not listening to Metal. Music should be emotional, passionate and moving whether its composed by Tallis, Mozart, Hetfield or Norwegian Black metallers. Take from it what you will, and listening to this I choose to believe in something divine and greater....

If music touches one's heart who is to pedantly say "it is wrong" or "how it should really sound"? The living heart is always authentic, the head is at best a signpost, at worst a graveyard of concepts seized by mental rigor-mortis. There are many examples of Bach's music played in sensitive exquisite performances on instruments unknown to Bach - are the 'transcriptions' "wrong"? And, for example, Fadia El-Hage has made a recording of 'The Arabian Passion of J.S.Bach' which I find a commendable touching and respectful blend of two musical genres. I don't find any version of any piece of music "definitive" any more than a human being or a rose can be defined. Much Love.

Useless video. The speaker can not shut up. Make your speech then shut up and let the music play, not you.
@jackmorrison73792 ай бұрын
What a silly and offensive remark. The video is about changes made in this musical piece over the centuries and the fact that the modern version is from English publishers, and is not faithful to Allegri's composition. Even now the Vatican does not allow this high "C" note or the English version. If you want the uninterrupted MODERN music there are PLENTY of videos on You tube. Go there, please!
@_morgoth_3 ай бұрын
So the modern version is a cover that everyone loves.
@jackmorrison73792 ай бұрын
NOT the Vatican. The modern English version is NEVER played in the Sistine Chapel. No high note, no modern scoring, a plainer less embellished version, and there are videos proving it.
