Scenario: Neighbourhood Science In a small, tight-knit suburban neighborhood, a group of enthusiastic neighbors has come together to promote science education and engagement among the local community. They call themselves the "Neighbourhood Science Enthusiasts" (NSE). Their goal is to foster curiosity, learning, and a deeper appreciation for science in people of all ages. Here's how they plan to achieve this: 1. **Science Workshops and Classes:** - The NSE group organizes regular science workshops and classes for kids, teenagers, and adults. These workshops cover a wide range of topics, from basic chemistry experiments to astronomy, ecology, and robotics. They make learning fun by conducting hands-on experiments and demonstrations. 2. **Community Science Events:** - To engage the entire neighborhood, the NSE group hosts community science events like stargazing nights, bird-watching walks, and nature hikes. These events not only teach science concepts but also connect neighbors with the natural world around them. 3. **Science Fair and Competitions:** - Every year, NSE hosts a neighborhood science fair where residents of all ages can showcase their science projects. They also organize friendly science competitions that encourage friendly rivalry among neighbors and promote learning. 4. **Science Resources and Library:** - NSE maintains a community science library with a wide selection of books, magazines, and educational materials. This resource is available for all residents to borrow from, ensuring that science is accessible to everyone. 5. **Guest Speakers and Experts:** - The NSE group invites scientists, researchers, and experts from various fields to give talks and presentations. These events not only educate but also inspire the community by showing the practical applications of science in everyday life. 6. **Science for All Ages:** - Recognizing that science is for everyone, the NSE group tailors their activities to different age groups. They have programs for preschoolers, school children, teenagers, and even special classes for senior citizens who want to explore science. 7. **Online Engagement:** - To reach a wider audience, NSE maintains an active online presence. They share science articles, experiments, and event updates through social media and a dedicated website. This allows neighbors to stay connected and engaged in science, even when they can't attend physical events. 8. **Community Gardens and Citizen Science:** - The neighborhood has community gardens where residents can grow plants and study local ecosystems. This ties in with citizen science projects, where neighbors can collect data on local flora and fauna, contributing to ongoing scientific research. 9. **Science-Based Art and Creativity:** - NSE encourages the fusion of science and art, organizing workshops where participants create art inspired by scientific concepts. This fosters creativity and reinforces scientific understanding. 10. **Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives:** - NSE promotes sustainable practices within the neighborhood, emphasizing the importance of science in addressing environmental challenges. They organize clean-up drives, tree-planting events, and educational talks on sustainability. The Neighbourhood Science Enthusiasts have created a vibrant, science-focused community that not only educates but also strengthens bonds among neighbors. Their efforts have inspired a new generation of young scientists and instilled a lasting love for science in residents of all ages. Through their dedication, they've transformed their neighborhood into a hub of curiosity and exploration.

I've got permanent nerve pain and several areas of damage to my central nervous system, I've also got only one kidney which doesn't fit well in the space my body allotted it. The other nerve pain medication is a nightmare, it barely works and causes a lot of negative side effects. Codeine and morphine work fine, I take breaks and alternate them enough to give me a better quality of life. I want anyone in a similar position to be treated or fixed properly and I sure would jump at the chance for anything more effective (surgeries, alternative treatments, anything)

I hope to get a response from a Dr. I had three unstable cervical fractures which were treated by wearing a solid neck brace for 6 months. Surgery was not an option as I had a ruptured aorta at the same time. I have been on opioids ever since the injury in 1997. For the past 7 years I have been prescribed 120 mg of Oxycodone sr daily. I no longer feel any pain relief but the only benefit from taking the Oxy is that it staves off the withdrawals. I am becoming more lethargic ( I was diagnosed with addisons as well but take organic turmeric in place of the hydrocortisone.) My almost non existent drive is making me feel depressed and feel like I am sliding down the ladder of injury by medication and struggle to perform as a functional Husband, Father and Grandfather. My concern is that I am slowly descending into a pit of depression and a diminishing will to live. Please respond with serious responses only. I would prefer to continue a discussion with a medical professional who has experienced and insight into my situation.

I'm so sick of this narrative that anyone on opiates are addicts. There's a difference between addiction amd physical dependence. If something helps give someone a better quality of life that person should have access to that medicine. We're being brainwashed to be opiophobic. Its so sad tbh. Many people will suffer because of this.

It's like there is a concerted worldwide effort to deny patients adequate pain relief. Not surprising, there is no money in most opioids because they are off patent. Phase them out through horror propaganda and the way is clear for next generation, less effective, but much more profitable medication products.

There are two completely different things! Addiction is where a person is using it for mental relief & takes more than needed! People that take it for chronic pain are “dependent” on the medication as anyone who comes off it will have the same withdrawal symptoms but when using only for pain (you don’t want to have to take them) & are rough on your body!
@janellee250
@janellee250 2 жыл бұрын
I’m an example of someone who is physically dependent due to chronic pain from my connective tissues disorder called Marfan Syndrome. But the thing that is parallel to an addict is the drug doesn’t know the difference between the two. My brain was still hijacked, my mood is affected, my drive to get out of the house has all but ended. It’s just a matter of wanting some form of my life back and yes I’ll be living with pain but at this point I’m willing to try alternatives because i do believe the long term affects will eat away at my mental state and it’s just not worth that. God bless any pain patients going through this as well and dig deep into your inner strength.

@@appleknocker56 lets be real tho. Opiates aren't great at long term treatment of pain. How is something your going to need more and more of a good thing? Nobody is saying that somebody with cancer shouldn't get there meds, amd shouldn't get strong ones. The issue comes when we have people with regular back pain trying to get perc 10's. We can all deal with some pain and discomfort. Opiates should only be used either for short term pain relief, or long term pain relief for serious issues like cancer.

I am 60yrs old. When I was 50 I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arithritis which now I have biological infusions & has helped me so much. Then I was diagnosed with degenerative stenosis of spine which I was told operating wouldn’t help. The pain was unbearable. Finally through a psychiatrist I was prescribed 20mgs daily of oxycodone & although it’s a small amount the pain would go away & I could function. 3 yrs ago I got fibromaglia & for that I take lyrics anywhere from 25mgs daily to 75mgs depending on how much pain. I must admit when I didn’t have these drugs there were times I didn’t want to live. I had no quality of life & it affected my family. I’m sick of drs saying I don’t prescribe cause they are addictive. I wonder what they would do. I don’t care if I have to take these & im blessed with a dr who understands. Young drs have no idea cause they don’t suffer. It’s their job to cure us & have compassion & empathy not to say sorry I can’t give you anything cause it’s addictive. What isn’t addictive. We can buy cigarettes & alchohol which can be worse but not a tablet that takes away our suffering. I believe the medical field should change their opinions about meds that can stop the pain. For all we know drs in pain probably take them for relieve.

Because he could have done the test this morning and get infected today at noon, right? If you believe he takes the pills regularly, you trust him. Secondly, they cannot donate blood because they are still positive on the test for HIV antibodies and that is a large amount of blood, undetectable means that there are less than 20 copies of the virus in 1 milliliter of blood, which is impossible for sexual transmission. So, my point is, if I don't trust you, you can give me a negative test every day, I don't trust you and the end. And if I trust you, I will trust you to take your medication regularly.
