What do you do if the die back or canker is on the bud union/graft point on the rose? Is there any hope in saving it?
@lyubafranco
@lyubafranco Күн бұрын
Hello and thank you for watching my video. Dieback can occur on either smaller branches or on the main stem towards the graft. The main goal is to identify it promptly and cut it off in entirety. The amount you'll have to cut off will depend not only on the location of the dieback but also on how much dieback has already occured hence the impact on the plant. There is always hope when it comes to saving a plant, you might have to prune it more aggressively vs not removing the damage and waiting for your plant to die. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!

There's some really great information here. Love the video. I live in zone 5a in Wyoming and with my roses, through trial and error, i've noticed that planting the rose too shallow the rose won't survive the winter. As far as I know, all roses are grafted and the graph union has to be buried at least 4 ro 6 inches below ground level. You pretty much have to bury half the rose. Protecting the canes from the desiccating winter winds we have here with tree leaves helps immensely. I use chicken wire to put around the rose. And then I fill it up with tree leaves for winter. This works well with tree peony too. Otherwise, it'll be forced to grow herbaceously. And may not survive.

Hello and thank you for watching my video. I appreciate your comment and positive feedback! In colder gardening zones, roses do need additional protection during the winter months in a form of either mulching ( like you said using tree leaves)or even covering the entire plant with frost protection cloth. It's also very important to correctly prune the roses. Many wait until the air temps are too cold to prune; hence causing the cells inside the canes to freeze essentially causing dieback of the branches and eventually of the entire plant. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!

Hello and thank you for watching my video. Im sorry to hear that one of your newly planted roses didn't make it. There are a lot of factors which could have contributed to the death of the plant. Each plant goes through transplant shock differently. If the plant is extremely stressed out it could experience dieback. Not all rose varieties are the same. Some are more disease reluctant, less prone to stress and are more cold hardy. The location is also crucial as roses need at least 6+ hours of bright direct sunlight daily. The condition of the soil; how well draining it, ph of the soil as well as nutrient composition are also very important factors.When planting a rose, it's important to calculate the correct planting depth. Depending on where you live and how cold it is during winter months you might have to plant the rootball deeper without exposing the graft. I hope that the remaining 3 roses will do well in your home garden! Be well and Happy Gardening!!!

That was a fun excursion to watch. Thank you for sharing. I would like to get some of the mums and heuchera, but the Home Depot here sucks compared to your store. It will be a few weeks before I can go check out my store. Fingers crossed.

Hello my fellow home gardener. Im sorry to hear that your local Home Depot doesn't have a good plant selection. Heuchera is a great part sun perennial, in fact it'll grow just as well in a shaded location. They have beautiful shape and colors of the foliage as well. I have a few varieties growing in my home garden and they bloom in early-mid Summer with beautiful light pink colored blooms. Did you know that mums are actually perennials? I got mine in repotted containers from Home Depot 2 years ago and planted them in the ground in my rose garden and they break ground in the Spring, put on all the foliage and are currently blooming for me. So no need to treat them as an annual and throw them out. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!

Hello and thank you for watching my video. Dark coloration/spots on the stems of your pepper plants are not typically anything to be concerned about. 😅my damask is infected with BS but, it is a very disease rsistant rose & won't be affected much.ljust remove bad leaves😊 Anthracnose , however is more rampant with periods of night rain in Malaysia. It caused stem canker. I used cinnamon powder as it is anti- fungal😊 try it! Garlic spray or brushing has anti- fungal sulphure. I don't have Bortyris Blight or grey mould but, grape growers usually use Sulphure dioxide spraying on the affected & shrivelled bunches. Downey Mildew & Rust fungus attacked my grapevines not, my roses😊Thank God😊❤ Powdery Mildew once affected my neighbour's red rose so, l sprayed it with # Potassium Bicarbonate😊❤ Oh my! ...u have quite fungal problems. Best to grow yours under a greenhouse for rain protection. I turn on my kitchen fan sometimes in my garden to dry the plants off😊😊 Good luck!

@lyubafranco
@lyubafranco 26 күн бұрын
Hello and thank you for watching my video. Im sorry to hear that you get scale on your citrus plants. Scale can be annoying, and pretty tricky to get rid especially when start to multiply. You are asking a great question; I personally use Neem Oil not only as a form of treatment but also as a form of prevention on my plants. Insecticidal Soap sprays are great at targeting and eliminating unwanted insects on plants, while Neem Oil is a great natural spray that should be used on weekly basis as a way to prevent insects/disease on plants. Make sure to spray the entire plant, including the trunk, both sides of the foliage, and even the soil surface as insects prefer to lay eggs/larvae in the soil. I hope I was able to answer your question and please keep me updated on your beautiful citrus plants. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!

Hello and thank you for watching my video. Your positive feedback is truly appreciated! Im sorry to hear that you had to deal with aphids this gardening season. Please don't get discouraged, cooler air temperatures do help eliminate a lot of problems in our gardens including unwanted pests/insects. I like using Neem Oil to not only prevent but to also eliminate aphids. I like to purchase Neem Oil concentrate as its much cheaper vs ready to spray bottles and I make my own spray. I spray my plants on weekly basis for preventative purposes and every 2/3 days as a form of treatment. If the problem has gotten way out of control(infestation), I prefer to use Insecticidal Soap as its formulated to target and eliminate unwanted insects/pests. Please keep me updated on your beautiful home garden. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!

Hello and thank you for watching my video. Im sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with your roses. The color of the branches or even there trunk might vary depending on the maturity of the plant. Older branches on rose plants tend to be more woody and darker in color. Scratch test is a great way to check for viability. When doing the scratch test, make sure to check the main trunk of the plant and not just the smaller side branches. Please keep me updated on your roses. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!

How often should I fertilize and what’s the best fertilizer for cucumbers, tomatoes and watermelons?
@lyubafranco
@lyubafranco 26 күн бұрын
Hello and thank you for watching my video. You're asking an excellent question! Frequency of fertilization will depend on where you're growing your crops. If you are growing them in a grow bag, container or a raised garden bed you should fertilize every week (once every 7 days). If you are growing directly in the soil of a home garden then you can scratch that timing a bit 10-14 days. In the beginning of growing phase, when the transplants are still small you want to use a fertilizer which is high in Nitrogen because that will encourage healthy foliage growth which is what the plant needs in the beginning stages and for photosynthesis.Every fertilizer regardless of the brand will have an NPK ratio stated on the package. Those 3 numbers stand for Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. Once you see that your plants have started to produce flower buds/fruit you want to switch to a fertilizer that is high in Potassium and Phosphorus. Those two components are responsible for healthy roots and encourage more blooms hence more fruit. I also like to work in some Bone Meal around the root ball at the time of weekly fertilization.Bone Meal has helped me double my harvest yield. Granular fertilizers do take some time to break down to be absorbed by the plant, so if you want faster results use water soluble/liquid fertilizers. Espoma Organic is a great brand, Jobes Organics is another great company. Jack's Classic 20-20-20 is a very strong all purpose fertilizer which is water soluble as well. I like to use it when Im trying to give my crops urgent, fast boost. I hope I was able to answer your question. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!
