Good find. Thats a late serial number SP F from the second of 2 production batches probably 1975. Your 55mm f1.8 SMC Lens serial number is from batch 174 of 175 batches made. Lens date definitely 1975. I have 5 of the F models now including A Motor Drive Version. All mine have 50mm f1.4 SMC lenses. IMHO the spotmatics are the best Pentax cameras ever made. They are so reliable and solid. I have over 30 different Spotmatics in Chrome and Black including Electro Spotmatics, ES and ESII plus SPII SP500 SP1000, SP and 2 Non metered SL's . all my cameras have the correct Takumar standard lens from era fitted. 3 of my early Spotmatic SP's have the 8 Element 50mm f1.4 fitted. I also have most Super multi coated Takumar prime lenses from 24mm to 200mm. Still plenty of them out there need to be found a home here in my collection :)

Check at 9.13. You only have to be in this rough area with your magnetised flat blade screwdriver and if it’s a jammed solenoid it will spring to life when you simultaneously press the shutter button. It doesn’t work in every case as sometimes there may be other failures. Good luck.

Nice review. A small correction if I may...the stop down switch doesn't operate the metering. If this were the case then it would be stop down metering. In fact, the meter is always on when the lens cap is off. Also, did you realise that there is a "T" setting? With the shutter speed on B, hold down the shutter release while rotating the collar around it. The shutter will then stay open until the collar lock is released.
@vintagevantics6 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. Doesn’t it depend on the lens I thought? Mine came with the Supertakumar 55mm 1.8 designed for TTL metering but other lenses need to be stopped down? Not sure but thanks for your comment.
@Whywas6scared6 ай бұрын
@vintagevantics You are correct that open aperture metering is only possible with SMC (super multi coated) lenses like yours. I don't currently have a battery in mine to check, but with other M42 lenses, I believe the meter will still always be on, but will only give an accurate reading when the lens is stopped down. In other words, for a correctly set up camera, the meter needle will be in the "+" region until stopped down.

Great little camera, very capable and has reached an almost iconic status now! I must admit I've just added one to my retro camera collection after a long search to find one locally at a reasonable price. The model I have is almost pristine and I'm looking forward to shooting some film with it. My quest to get one goes back a long way, on a school trip in the 1970s my best friend took his olympus trip 35, I had our family kodak instamatic, it was only after we compared photos, I realised how crude our family camera was and how much nicer the Olympus Trip photos came out. I said back then I wanted to get one but they were way out of my pocket money price range. Until now....😊 I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another retro camera photographer. 📷

Hi, I tried this trick and it helped me partially. Even so, the EEE error sometimes appears mainly after switching on and pressing the trigger. However, it happens to me at some times. I'm afraid it's probably old age and an error in the electronics.
