Before trying to hit this in-game, please go to training mode beforehand. #1 Frame 1 I notice "Timestamps" is cut off. #2 The Timestamp for Matchups is off. Everything is just like a random knowledge check in this game. If it skips neutral or is a reversal, it should just simply be negative enough on block that you can punish it with a heavy. It's not complicated. Why do I have to spot dodge at a specific time on some moves like Seox's ult wall dive? Why does stand or crouch block matter sometimes? Why does it change with spacing? Why are some of them PLUS on block and you're expected to react to it to punish it such as Luci's ult teleport? It's def the most frustrating part of this game.

Yeah, the fact that you have to lab different optimal punishes for each reversal in the game has always been annoying to me. This was especially frustrating back when I was learning the game.

God yes. I went through the frame data on multiple characters DPs and was absolutely baffled. I'm the shoto player, playing Kat, Seig, Belial too. Only 1/3rd of a second to react to and punish a completely invincible panic button is just so incredibly degenerate. And so many of them are invincible from the very first frame too. There's a reason every other game avoids this as much as possible. And meterless invincible DPs are STILL OP enough SF literally removed them. And honestly it's better off for it

Seems like characters who were designed predominantly for close range get safer reversals. Characters with mid to long range options, not so much.

The reason why its this way is simple, and is something I've been saying for years (because I usually only speak up when I actually know what I'm talking about): Arc Systems Works are incapable of making intuitive and balanced fighting games. Either because they literally don't know how or don't want to.

I hate safe DPs with all my heart, but this video's examples are garbage lmao. The DPs he showed are ultimate DPs, which costs meter. So the reason for the better recovery literally is just to give people an incentive to use ultimate DPs. That's it. Why are people confused about this. Supers having wonky recovery are just privileged character stuff. We've all seen it before. Ladiva/Beelzebub I'm confused why this was even brought up lmao. The difference between the two is that one is a grappler and one is not. Should be obvious who is going to have a worse command grab.

Well here's the problem with ultimate DPs. Most of them have just as much, if not more recovery than DPs. The ones he covered are exceptions to the rule. The main incentive for many ultimate DPs is that they beat safejabs and cause a hard knockdown, allowing for good oki. In addition to this, the two ultimate DPs in contention with each other (Soriz and Lucilius) are the only non-super reversals those characters have. Functionally, they are identical. The point of the video is that supers and reversals having weird recovery shouldn't be the case. Just because it's the status quo doesn't mean it's not stupid.

@@thestealer63214 The fact people are complaining about ultimate DPs recovering faster definitely does not mean that it has just has much recovery. Charlotta ult DP is definitely just privilege though, but like I said, we've all seen privileged characters before, and should poke fun about the overall character balance than this. The Soriz/Lucilius comparison can literally just be chalked up to Lucilius just having larger hitboxes, to allow the opponent to punish the damn thing at max range. That's it. Soriz has better recovery because it hits closer and he's all over your face the entire time anyways, while Lucilius is the opposite. Again, why are people confused about this. They are not identical. The fact that you are pointing them out means there are not identical. The reasoning is also pretty common sense. DPs being like this are just for extra spice, and mostly inoffensive. I can't even say to just hit the lab because you just punish it just as you always have been punishing stuff, it's just a matter of how much you can beat them up.

I still don't see where you're coming from with people complain about Ultimate DPs having less recovery with the exception of Charlotta's, because most of them have the same frame advantage on block as their meterless counterparts. Hell, Belial's H DP has the same timing quirks and frame advantage as his U DP, which was shown in this video.

They are ultimates so they have to have some spice to them (if they already have a meterless reversal) with extra utility which can be better recovery, bigger vertical range, it being a grab, or like the funky ult counter Belial has. The better oki seems to just be universal for all ult skills. Belial ult DP seems to be one to not have spice, that definitely does not make sense and I'll give him that. (Grateful as hell though we don't need this guy to be more loaded)

The only answer to most of these is because Raging Chain exist, probably except to the crossups. Like the devs can get away with alot of these because the defending player can just f/L + raging chain as the generic counter, while labbing a more specific counter gives rewards on the knowledge check

Almost as different characters must be approached in different ways. What should average character mean? You're only seeing frame numbers and hitboxes when some of these moves cost meter and characters simply have different ways to win. All at -16 so you always do the same thing, as if the game wasn't already been simplified by removing the UOHs. I suggest you play several games before you request changes because you don't get your punish out and you get annoyed at adapting to situations.

For modern fighting games, Strive reversals only have Sin's R.T.L. and I-No's Ultimate Fortissimo as reversal knowledge checks, and the reward for punishing other reversals just depends on how close you were. SF6's true invincible reversals go from -20 -60, so I dunno what you want me to say when I have a problem that the simplified modern fighting game that's easy to learn everything about has a seemingly random number on what reversal should be more punishable? I guess I just have to go, "Oh, I guessed right by blocking their reversal, time for them to not get punished for using the move that was used with the intention of having risk reward."

Now we all play the same games, why do you bother to learn other characters? Those who play KOF and UNI or even Tekken, what should they say then? How punishable things are can be a character balancing lever. Lucilius, the long range, slow paced character, having a more punishable DP than soriz, the rushdown character, is perfectly fine. You get a "standard" punish of cH on both of them, but you can do fancier things against Lucilius. The same thing goes for the command grab supers. The non-dedicated grappler's command grab should be worse than the dedicated grappler's command grab. Things like Lance's super and charlotta ult DP I can agree on. You could have also brought up Lance's ult DP hitting behind him and also being an overhead for whatever stupid reason they thought he needed that. Zooey's ult DP is a silly one. If you don't know about the dodge, and just block and punish, you get a standard punish, but if you do know, you can do a better punish. This rewards people who explore the game without punishing those who don't. I think that's fine.

The Vira thing is the only one I feel like is worth talkin gf about, tbh. All the other characters are, well, other characters. Naturally, I would expect different kinds and requirements to punish their dp's. More vulnerable with more range, less vulnerable witness range, better dodged when standing vs. blocked- this is all stuff I think not only has a place in the game, but is an overall good thing to implement by virtue of variance. That said, getting rid of the dodge timing to punish Vira's dp was a bad move

Honestly this is basically my one main complaint about Rising's balancing right now. Having both DPs and Supers be unpunishable or such a struggle to punish while other characters get blown up for having theirs blocked, is absolute bullshit and it just feels like poor balancing. Charlotta and Belial are i think, the main poster boys of this because both their DPs AND Supers might as well be unpunishable in some ranges, which feels doubly fucked up, considering both of these characters are not bad characters at all, Belial is at this point basically the best character in the game and Charlotta absolutely will rush you down with absurd offense now thanks to her buffs. One would expect them to get some kind of specific defensive nerf for being so good but no, they also get great defensive options, while other less fortunate characters can just get exploded for doing their high comittal options.

by the way, Soriz dp would need to be -16 for a 66H punish, since every dash normal needs at least 1f of dashing.
