This is a false dichotomy. You can be an empath with boundaries. If other people pain doesn't move your emotions you are not compassionate. Putting yourself in someone's shoes and feeling deeply and caring for them has a cost. It is NOT CODEPENDANT. TO SUFFER WITH SOMEONE. WHICH IS WHAT compassion means . Com means with passion means suffering. Pride in being an empath is a problem because pride is a problem. Empaths are not a problem. Lack of boundaries and pride and shame are problems. When you have boundaries you can be selfless without losing yourself because self is clearly defined and you are free to lay down yourself. Codependent are not free they are motivated to meet their own needs on someone else.

Claiming to be an empath is usually just getting entangled in other people's problems. I've known quite a few people who say they are empaths but who get so overwhelmed by other people's stuff that they are useless to the other person. They get embroiled. They don't function well. They rehearse how difficult it is to be an empath as if they were a higher form of humanity cursed with the ability to carry other's problems. I have never met a happy, emotionally healthy "empath".

I tell people the world is not my responsibility to carry. I tell other massage therapists that the weight of your client belongs to them alone. Respect the sovereignty of others around you by affording them the dignity of carrying their own weight. Plus, even if I could carry the weight it is futile because it will only have an affect on me, not the person from where the weight originates. It's the height of arrogance for people to think they can solve another person's problems. Most everyone is attempting to figure out strategies for solving their own problems. There's this inclination with empaths to avoid the inner work, and get distracted by things outside of the internal chaos. Stop. Get in there deep and do the work. Stand at the edge of the abyss and give yourself over to the process.

Dumb take. You don't need a VR headset to interact with VR-based environments, they are literally just video games. The only reason it would ever be 'closed off and only accessible to those with a VR headset' is if it was a product designed that way, and even then I'm sure there are workarounds. The fact that anyone would be panicking about the Virtual World as she puts it while not acknowledging that the video games industry *is* said virtual world and the far greater issue is the lack of regulation in that is just a demonstration of pure, unadulterated ignorance with regards to technology.
