Thank you for this episode. “Way Out West” was my gateway film. I was 8 years old in 1979 and that was the first movie I remember seeing of theirs. I was hooked. I would search the TV Guide each week looking for their films. I collected a lot on VHS, then DVD and now blu ray. But it didn’t stop with Stan and Babe. I became obsessed with Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Charlie Chaplin, Mabel Normand, Roscoe Arbuckle, Harry Langdon, Lloyd Hamilton, Charley Chase, The Marx Brothers, Our Gang, Thelma Todd, W. C. Fields, Abbott and Costello, The Three Stooges and so many others. My DVD/blu ray library is nearly all classic film comedy from the first half of the 20th century. My book library is nothing but biographies and filmographies about the silent and early sound comedians. It’s been my drug of choice for the past 45 years. Please keep up the great work.

Excellent video! This year I went to the Lumiere Museum in Lyon. It is really excellent if you get the chance. It is their family home and factory. They were also very good employers and paid their employees very well. The museum has their camera and also an Edison Kinetoscope.

I’m honestly glad that DVDs are still being made as even today, I only have a 720p TV. Plus, it’s nice to not have to upgrade to a new format for once! I’m still rocking my DVD Player/VCR combo and my USB DVD drive. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still glad Blu-Rays exist for those who care about picture quality, but I still prefer DVDs.

I finally watched Citizen Kane for the first time as a 42 year old film buff. Glad I saw it, excellent camera angles and cinematography but I definitely would not place it higher than the first two Godfather films, North By Northwest, Vertigo, Goodfellas, All About Eve, West Side Story, Taxi Driver, Psycho, Casablanca, It Happened One Night, Annie Hall, et al. I wish David Lynch or Pedro Almodovar would have made this ranking somewhere, and there is a jarring amount of war movies in here (but I think I like Deer Hunter way more than you do). But also thank you for that Waiting For Guffman footage when it comes to Raging Bull!

Another advantage to streaming is that I can watch an unlimited amount of films and shows while in physical I'm limited by my budget. Can you afford to buy 10 films a week?
@kriswatchesmovies5 ай бұрын
absolutely not. I have friends who can afford to buy new 4ks every week and I'm very jealous of them. I probably only buy 1-2 a month these days. I built a lot of my collection used.
@ben99ny695 ай бұрын
@@kriswatchesmovies Well, used is tricky. Maybe you can get good deals online. But the secondary market really sucks. I go to this bookstore and they are selling 4k basically at retail price. Really damaged stuff for like 15 bucks. I never even bother to look at that section because of that. Also, it's way better to watch the movies on streaming and buy what you truly like. Saves space and money. Also, it allows someone like me who has a hard time buying these expensive special editions.

I got a box set of some Neon films for Christmas and a friend was over. We were discussing the movies in that set and I told him he could borrow it and watch the things he wanted. Like your coworker, he also didn't have anything to play a Blu-Ray or DVD on so he said he would just come by and we would watch them at my place next time. It's weird to think that streaming has such a grip on our society that people just don't have anything to play a movie on. People have giant TVs with great sound systems, but no way to play physical media. Great video! I just put out a video about how streaming is hurting Hollywood and fans of movies. Your video is a great continuation of some of the things I didn't talk but wanted to.

When I go in Best Buy now, it’s crazy to me that they sell so much equipment to have “the best home theater experience” and now they don’t sell Blu-ray’s or for 4K’s anymore. It’s like a kitchen without any food.

This makes no sense AFI sucks anybody to sit there and say that a movie is better than another or to say that it is in fact a good movie because it won an Oscar etc doesn't make any sense . I can say chocolates better than vanilla but at the end of the day it's just an opinion by all means this has nothing against you keep making videos but in my opinion again everybody has those if I was stuck on an island the following movies would make me happy they are the greatest ever . Not in particular order Terminator 2 Seven Year itch American graffiti Corleone saga Good,the bad and the ugly And the 1978 Superman . P.s. Your segment on the Shawshank redemption was pretty funny !

I have a rule that I won't watch movies before my birth year which is 1976 of course I've made exceptions such as watching The Godfather movies and the original Psycho but frankly I just don't care or find it necessary to watch all those old timey films, sure I'm familiar with classic actors like Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart but that's because I used to watch programs like Entertainment Tonight that would bring me up to speed on the golden age of Hollywood.

Any movie appreciation list that has Shawashank at #72 instead of #2 (or higher) is clearly irrationally insane! ...then follows up with Saving Private Ryan at #71... has A LOT of explaining to do! In fact, only four movies listed in the top 25 belong there: Schindler's List, Lawerence of Arabia, The Godfather, and Citizen Kane. IMHO, AFI's list is complete RUBBISH!
