This was my first Genesis tour and remains the most memorable to me as I was stunned by how great they were live (though they were on fire during the Duke tour, and vocally Phil was at his peak).

" Much have I travelled in the realms of gold/And many goodly states and kingdoms seen....Then felt I like some watcher of the skies..' Worth checking out the Keats poem. We have to thank a 1960s public school education for some of the glories of Genesis lyrics.

Phil was a talent behind the microphone even before he went on to his phenomenal solo career. He owns this song even more than Gabriel and without the goofy outfits.

Saw this group live at Alexander Hall on Princeton University's campus in '73. I was a student and part of a 6-piece band named Anubis and we used to use Alexander Hall, a 1400+ seat venue on campus that doubled as a lecture hall as well as a concert hall. Anyway, we were wrapping up a rehearsal when a bunch of roadies came in to set up for a concert that night. The band came in while they were getting ready for the sound check. We hung out on stage and I was checking out Tony Banks on the Mellotron. I had heard them before, but this was my first time seeing one. The sax/flute player in our band was talking with this guy that had a reverse mohawk (Peter Gabriel), who also played flute. So, they went out in the entry corridor outside of the hall and started jamming. They invited us to come back for the show that night, which we did, and that's when we found out what the reverse mohawk was all about! They were musically very tight and Gabriel's stage presence was undeniable!! It was a superb show! And oh, did I mention that there was also this really skinny but very good drummer in their group (Phil Collins)!?
