Nice review man! Can you stand up and fish in small chop in the outback?
@ETuss7132 жыл бұрын
As someone who owns a compass and a Passport 12, the Passport 12 is a better fishing kayak for me. I fish inshore Tx coast. The cockpit of the Passport is larger and easier to fish out of. I feel just as stable standing in the passport as the compass. It is as light as the compass and feels as nimble. On the Passport I was able to deck it out with the xl deployable rudder, same vertical rectangular hatch as the outback with bucket, full 6mm marine mat, front 8" circular hatch with bucket, anchor trolley, fish finder kit, and hobie h crate for the same cost as a stock compass. The Passport has the kick up mirage drive. The compass has 180. I find that im not often wanting the 180 in the Passport (although I can just pop in the compass 180). The seat on the compass is much better than the passport. I use a 4" gel cushion of the passport. $25 on Amazon and works great. If I was to do it again, for the 2500 dollar cost of the compass, Id buy an old town sportsman pdl 120 or a hobie lynx. For the same money, the Passport 12 fully rigged is a great option. Otherwise, I would spend the money on the Outback .

Really useful thanks. Isn't the old town way more bulky to transport though?
@ETuss7132 жыл бұрын
@@stovic1442 somewhat. If ypu are trailering it or putting it in the bed of a truck you'll likely not notice. Car topping is different

In the end I went the compass, it was cheaper and the few cool things like rails and extra hatches I can ad myself for far less than the extra an outback would cost me

The Compass is hands down the best fishing kayak for the money out there. If Hobie ever figures out their 360 drive technology, I might upgrade to an outback.

Ya keepers here are 12” but they’re raising it to 14” soon, so hopefully our population will grow a bit. I caught a 22” earlier this year though.

Great Video!! I have the Compass which I love. My friend has the Outback which is super nice and I was jealose when he got it. Although he has more bells and whistles it is a challenge everytime to get the Outback on top of his SUV without assistance. I load my Compass by myself without difficulty and then go help him out. It is amazing what the few extra pounds makes. But it makes a big difference. The Compass definately checks the box for "Ease of Loading". If I owned a truck I would probably go Outback but as often as I kayak, I don't want to deal with the added difficulty of car topping the Outback.
