Today I played the first six Touhou games for the first time ever after playing Artificial Dreams In Arcadia. Before that I dabbled in 11 just to try a game finally. After dipping my toes in all six, maybe playing an hour apiece, I finally see why these games are so fun. I think 2 might be my favorite, I have a fondness for that PC98 look. 4 and 5 are cool, but it's hard to keep up with the bullets

I'm playing the games in order and decided to skip from Touhou 10 to 15 and decided to see if it was that hard. OH BOY IT FREAKING IS!

19:42 Nah the last boss of that game is harder than clownpiece. People just talk about clown piece more because they usally give up by that point, and can barely get to stage 6. 19:55. Are you sure you had easier time with that boss than clown piece. I have least gotten through CP only dying about 3 or 4 times and using all my bombs each, while that boss I get obliterated. I've even watch a 1cc player struggle more with the final boss than CP.

I really like this series. Btw. if you want maybe also try other Bullet Hell games besides touhou if you ever feel bored :) Also if you want to see how to do Stars and stripes on normal, i have a reimu 1cc on my channel from 3 years ago

For old games, i always feel the fight was miserable but finishing the quest fills with pride and glory.

In gen 4 if you look at the direction the shadow goes it'll show you where the monster is headed for monsters that dig just look at the dirt being kicked up and well monsters that walk just walk to the next area over doesn't work in the expeditions cause the monster just kinda blips into a new area but there's not much areas in those so it's fine

Ahh starting oldgen MonHun with 4U. Extremely based choice, it was my first game of the series, and I put 1,000 hours on it and never played anything else in my 3DS lol. Portable 3rd is another very accessible oldgen game to try out, and it's super easy to emulate with an english translation patch.

I think you've given each game a pretty fair ranking, although personally EoSD is hella hard for me, it'd probably be at like 4 or 5 on my list. I'd be curious to see a ranking of each game in terms of quality/preference i.e. top touhou games

You played this game on 3DS and New 3DS which has a second barely serviceable stick but I mostly used left bumper to focus my camera on the beast or in front of me

Uhh... first off, you could just use a VM to run windows 98 on your computer, but second, you DON'T NEED WINDOWS 98 to run Tohou. Tohou was released for a japan exclusive set of computers called PC-98, which sure, can run windows, but isn't required. The reason I say this, is because THERE ARE PC-98 EMULATORS OUT THERE, there's even a retroarch core that I use to run PC-98 games called Neko Project II

oh great 2hus, what is the best way to learn the stories and about the characters of these games? i have bad reaction time so i dont think id really enjoy playing LOL but i just love what stuff i have learned about touhou and the character designs are so perfect like dam i wanna wear adorable dresses and end casually end the world only to go back to my flowers to LMAO

Hello, veteran Touhou player here. (I started playing Touhou games around 2012.) I know you've been playing these games for 2 years at this point, but hearing how quickly you got through Ran, and even more so, that you thought Yukari *wasn't* that much more difficult than Ran was absolutely insane. The typical sentiment shared amongst people with the willpower to beat Yukari for the first time is "I don't know how I did it, but I did, and I don't think I could do it again." That's certainly what I felt as well. (Of course, Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom wasn't out yet at the time I was trying to beat all the Extra Stages initially, so I didn't have that hyperbolic time chamber of a game to prepare me.) These days, most of my time playing Touhou is spent going for perfect boss runs on Lunatic difficulty, and even now, Yukari still scares me. While I can clear any Extra Stage pretty consistently, Yukari's Phantasm Stage has always remained an uncertainty, and I don't always survive to the end. I'm sure if I spent a lot of time practicing Yukari's patterns specifically, it would become easier, but improving my general Touhou skills has not helped with Yukari as much as it has with most other things. To this day I consider Yukari to be the most difficult boss in the entire Touhou series. Not necessarily in terms of pattern difficulty. (Lunatic Junko holds that title.) But in terms of getting from point A to point B and surviving the boss with the resources available, Yukari is the hardest. So congratulations! Although given that difficulty is subjective, I'm sure there will be other things that give you a harder time.

I haven't seen anyone else mention it, but I'm fairly certain the bubble bullets only count as a hit if they cover your entire hitbox? I might be entirely wrong but thinking about them in that way at least made dodging them easier for me so...

When I last played Touhou, Hidden Star in Four Seasons had just come out and I remember being amazed it actually released on Steam. I watched you play through the series yesterday, and it inspired me to redownload HSiFS. I had a lot of fun playing it again, even if I was McStruggling to shake my rust off. It also amazed me that ZUN released almost every Touhou game on Steam from 9 on. Sadly my 2 favorite, PCB and IN, were not on Steam, but I am excited to finally give ZUN more money.
